Does anyone have a good idea? I've got loads of these halogen jobbies in my kitchen, including in a whopping great John Lewis chandelier thing the previous owners installed.
They keep blowing and of course they're energy sapping. The chandelier alone is around 400w with all the 20w bulbs.

Trouble is the under-cupboard downlighter ones are pushed into a recess that give very little space when the circular glass cover is replaced, ie the LED bulbs can't be any bigger. These are annoying. Why they didn't use conventional downlighters I don't know.

These are the halogen bulbs

Have a search for LED G4 lamps, this will give you a better idea of what is available.
I've been reading reviews on Amazon but no-one seems entirely happy with them.
Can trust Phillips and these might work on the chandelier, but they're pricey and too big for the cupboard downlighters

There aren't any 'decent' replacements.
Again.

You will find replacements but none that will get anywhere near a comparable light output
Oh no - you were my big hope!

I use Light in the Box, cheap as chips, take a couple of weeks to turn up from China but I have had only one failure so far having replaced a number of bulbs or various types. Might be worth a taking chance if you do not find anything else: http://www.lightinthebox.com/narrow/g4_v48831t0/le...
Good prices on that site, at least. Cheap enough for some trial and error!

Belated thanks for the responses here - especially for the offer of bulbs! Might take you up on that. Delayed reply due to birth of daughter on Tues!

Leaving the chandelier for a mo, I'm first trying to replace the 7 G4 halogen bulbs currently in these downlighters with LEDs

The glass cover pops out to reveal this reflective inner. The connector pins are to the side

That leaves this void, with clips to attach the reflective inner.

I've found the transformers that take it down to 12v.
Now want I want to is to replaced the whole reflector piece with these LEDs below
Is this possible?? The width of the silver reflectors is 47mm and the LEDs look to be 43mm so just maybe they'll clip in, just about.
But will they light up? These say DC - does it need to be AC?
