How can I find out who owns land?
Discussion
I live out in the sticks in Devon in an old Manor House. There is some land adjacent to my property which I am interested in acquiring but I can't find out who it belongs too.
I wrote to the Land Registry with our title deeds identifying the land I'm interested in but they just wrote back saying that the land was not owned by any of the properties adjacent to the land in question.
Is there any definitive way to find out?

Thanks for the replies but none of this seems to help.
On the map search on the the Land registry site the search just comes back with "Sorry, we have been unable to find a property that matches your enquiry. Please try searching in a different area."
I had also previously written to Land Registry with a copy of my title deeds, outlining the adjacent land which I was interested in.
They wrote back merely saying that the land was not registered to any of the adjacent properties (so no use to me).
Any other ideas that don't involve me buying a caravan ?

Not with map search, but a postcode makes map search quicker. You can toggle to a satellite image too. Once you have zoomed in close enough you can select a circle diameter and it returns the title numbers within that circle. If it comes up with nothing the land is unregistered.
I have the business version and that has a much better map tool that shows the title numbers on each parcel and edges the parcel in red. No red edge means unregistered
Don't suppose I could be cheeky and ask you to have a look up on the business version for me? I have the business version and that has a much better map tool that shows the title numbers on each parcel and edges the parcel in red. No red edge means unregistered
