Bought a house at last - thanks HG&DIY forum
Discussion
It's only taken 18 months(!) but finally my wife and I have bought a house. Picked up the keys on Thursday and we'll be spending this weekend ferrying as much stuff across as possible from the current flat. It's nothing fancy but it does have a double garage which I'm delighted about.
It has been over a year since our original plan fell through owing to vendors wanting more money. Since then, we've viewed many properties, got sick of browsing RightMove, got bored of dealing with chancers (some people seem determined not to sell their house despite putting it on the market) but at long last we've found something that we're both delighted with in a very nice area. Offer accepted early April so it has only taken three and a half months to complete(!).
All this time, HG&D has been a helpful resource. With the market as it is, it can be easy to get down in the dumps trying to find the right house. As such, just wanted to say thanks to those who continue to share their interesting projects (big and small), post pics, ask interesting questions and generally go out of their way to give help and advice. Thanks also to the tradespeople who impart their expert knowledge. There is plenty to do on this house (according to my wife) and we've also (for the first time!) got a garden so some suitable garden machinery is required. I've been following the garage flooring thread with interest, shame I don't have any money left to put any fancy metal in the garage. Oh well, one step at a time etc.
Cheers.

Thank you all for your kind words.
This was supposed to be more a thread praising this section of PH as I think it is a brilliant resource. Extra thanks to the PHer roofer whose advice over PM has been invaluable.

'nothing fancy'
Sure about that? Looks very charming indeed. Many congrats
Wasn't planning to post pics tbh. (no embarrassed smiley). It's a nice house and we're happy with it. Suffice to say, much saving and sacrifice had to be made to get this. Been promising myself an M3 or M5 for years but always felt a house had to take priority.Sure about that? Looks very charming indeed. Many congrats

Thanks all, your kind words mean a lot.
There are a lot of knowledgeable people on here. It's also great to see projects come to fruition and that's only possible by members taking the time to share to help the 'community'.

Your humility is nicer than your house, which itself is very nice!

One thing that I immediately noticed was that guttering run between dormers - that's not normal is it? I'd normally expect a central downpipe to take those short runs.
Yes, it's a somewhat unusual set up. All the group of houses built at the same time in this part of the road are similar.fastbikes76 said:
Congratulations ! We are in exactly the same boat as you, recently purchased and done using a large dose of knowledge picked up on the way from browsing this section for ages. Big thumbs up to all contributors
Good luck in the new house.
Congratulations and best of luck in yours as well. Good luck in the new house.

Would have been dull without pics you should be proud to post them. How old is the house? Really hard to tell.
Thank you. As mentioned, it was supposed to be more of a forum thanks thread rather than a look at my house thread. IIRC, the house was built in 1977.skintemma said:
Oh, I should add, this is indeed a great forum. Although hubster is petrol driven, when I was looking for someone to share my house building woes with, this was and still is, top spot. Any questions, someone friendly here will know the answer.
