Hiya, wonder if anyone can give any advice.

It would appear some wasps have taken up residence in what i think is the stump of a very old Rose bush in the garden (its been there absolutely decades and I have never got round to actually digging it up and getting rid of it lol)

Was starting to tidy up the garden as it has got somewhat unruly and is in dire need of weeding/tidying up somewhat when i was dive bombed by several wasps and stung several times on the hand and face, my OH has stated that nothing as changed with my face and im still as ugly as sin hehe

Have tried placing a plastic box over the stump for the moment but this has now created an unruly big gang of wasps now trying to get back into the stump hehe

Any one got any ideas of how to approach this on the cheaper side of sorting/moving the wasps on as we have a dog that uses the garden and am slightly worried that they will attack it if it goes to near the stump, plus its stopping me from getting the rest of the garden done. Any ideas would be gratefully taken on board as i have never had to deal with getting rid of wasps before smile

They sting you so you learn to keep away from the nest. I bet your dog's a lot smarter :-)

A friend of mine had a next by his shed and he threw boiling water over it. A few of the buggers chased him into the house to seek revenge.
Thanks for the response guys smile

See i didn't even know it was there and once stung a couple of times i legged it over the other side of the garden and was attacked again, if anyone looked out of there window they would have seen me taken my top off and flaying around like a mad man trying to stop them attacking me lol

Not sure on the council front will need to check that out if its only about £35 that will be pretty good as i was expecting it to be a lot more. Once they have vacated the stump ill dig it up and get rid off it smile

Had thought about it, but given the garden is somewhat verging on being a jungle i didn;t feel like watching the whole garden going up in smoke hehe

If the wasps get you you may well end up with pits on heads.

biggrin
Fortunately, where i was stung on the chin has now gone down considerably (little barstewards they are for doing that lol), although one in between my fingers looks like i have been in a fight and bruised my knuckles........if that hasn't gone down by tommorrow i might ring up doctors and see if i need to do anything about it.

There is a lot of misconception on this thread, I've been studying wasps for many years and through trail an error I have found they hate two things, unlike bees wasps hate jam and find the smell repulsive, they will remain in the hive if they smell jam.

Secondly urine kills them stone dead so you should liberally cover yourself in jam and urinate on the nest, don't worry it is quite safe.

Film it and post it up so we may all see how effective it is.
biggrinrofl

Going out to buy wasp killer is the easy way out. Every man I know goes into the garage and sees what he has in the tool, box to deal with it. I used silocone. Sealed up hole in wall. Job done.

In my bird box, golf clubbing straight off the tree. Job done.

One in a hedge, accidental strimmer straight through the center. Job done.

One on the eaves, can of wd40. Job done.

In all my attempts iv only been left with 1 sting. Although asmi age, I gain my powerfully built directer type body and cwnt run as fast anymore. Bring them on I say. Its a great afternoon out.
I am not a powerfully built director unfortunately rofl

There is a crap load of long grass round the stump making it very hard to see where the entrance they are using in the stump. Hopefully today or tommorow ill head out to the shops and pick up some wasp killer and head out in the dead of night to see if i can work out where it is and then attack the fkers!

If any one sees a man screaming round the garden in the dead of night being chased by a swarm of wasps that will be me rofl

Well exterminator guy turned up this morning, looked at the rose bush stump, put on his full bee keeping suit and squirted it with a load of powder that he had in huge bottle that he had.

I was watching through one of the windows in the kitchen and i couldn't believe how many wasps actually swarmed out of the stump eek

Exterminator guy strutted back inside saying not to let the dog out for the day as the wasps were very angry with him hehe

Only problem i may have now its thats its decided to absolutley hammer down with rain 5 minutes after the guy left and im wondering how effective the powder will now be.....

Cross fingers its done its job smile
