I have received notice that a piece of land I own will be compulsory purchased to make way for a helipad to be used by the emergency services in the even of an accident

whilst I have no use for the land and I doubt anyone else would (it's a small plot of scrub halfway up a mountain) I'm not too fussed about losing it

what's the mechanism of agreeing a price as I'm fairly certain the offer I'll be made will be somewhere between insulting and ridiculous

Why you got a piece of land in the midle of nowhere?

speculating?
it's been in the family for years and I got given the land when my grandfather passed away

Surely if (by your own admission) nobody would have any use for the land, it is only of negligible value, and you can't expect to get much for it?
granted but I won't let it go for £5 when it could be worth £10k

Out of interest, if it's just a small piece of scrub halfway up a mountain, what the Dorothy L Sayers makes that the precise bit they need for a helipad?
it's near a single track railway which passes through the mountain by the means of a tunnel

if there was a collision near or in the tunnel they'd want to use my plot to land in order to ferry the injured

Can you sell the plot but retain a lease on it where they have to pay you say £1000 a year. Easy beer token generation oppourtunity here yes
