How much for a landscape gardener?

Based in Suffolk, we have finished building our house and are now turning our attention to the garden, which is a building site!
Only want somthing simple but we have no idea about how to go about it, plus its really hard work so would prefer to employ someone to share the burden! Hopefuly they will also ensure we are doing it the most effiecant way possible (spent the weekend digging over the front plot removing very large stones, bits of wood and concrete slabs where they mixed up while building! fig must be an easier way!).
A guy helps out with the cottage opposite us but charges GBP20ph, thought that was pricy for a gardener in suffolk? Or am i being tight
