Meter box - cutting neat hole through external brickwork?
Discussion
I'm in the process of getting an extension underway and need to relocate the gas and electric meter positions.
I've just filled in the applications for this doing but need to get the new meter boxes in place.
I'm going to get these (Jewson stock them).
Electric
Gas
Bit of a newb question but I'm not sure what tool(s) would be best to use to cut out the hole in the brickwork. And what to seal it with afterwards.
I'm also reliably informed it won't need a lintel of any kind to support the hole, does that sound right?
Any tips?
Just to add I can only use the built-in boxes as they are going in a driveway so need to be out of the way.

I'm guessing one of these should do it

or one of these (cheaper)

Brickwork opening needs to be....370mm x 530mm x 150mm

Are they going in the bew build extension?
If so build them in.
You will also need a cavity tray dpc to go over the lintol as well.
Make sure the hockey stick is in place before you build the box in, you'll have trouble getting it in afterwards.
No, in the existing brickwork. If so build them in.

Thanks for the tips.

For those of us that aren't sure what a hockey stick is, please explain..... Make sure the hockey stick is in place before you build the box in, ....
Just googled it. The conduit that protects the cable.
Just to be clear the hockey stick houses the cable from the meter to you consumer unit, right?

Oh, hang on......
My incoming leccy supply is a bit odd in that it's clipped to the outside of house and runs horizontally at 1st floor level above where the new box will sit.
I was assuming they would T-off from there vertically down into the new box.
Do I still need a hockey stick?
