Well Lucy our 4 1/2 month old black lab is currently at the vets, on a drip getting tests ran on her. I took her down today and something about the vets demeanour gave me a bad feeling.

Basically went off her food about a week ago having previously had no issues scoffing her meals, over the last week we have tried all sorts to get her to eat and she hasnt been interested at all. All i have managed to get her to eat is 3 boiled chicken livers and about 3/4 sauasages. She just doesnt seem interested in anything and is even drinking less than normal.

I initially put this down to the puppy just being a bit parky with her food but By this morning she was looking visibly thin, was very lethargic and her breathing seemed awkward. She has gone from a bundle of fun who would want to play with out adult lab oscar 24/7 to a pathetic looking specimen barely managing to drag herself around. Took her down to the vets today as soon as I could get an appointment..

Vet checked her over, said her body temp is low, she is very pale and dehydrated. She remarked that her recent black stools might be down to an internal bleed but didnt really know what was causing this. Pup has been kept in at least overnight, is on a drip and having bloods taken. Vet remarked that she was very poorly and this has me gutted.

I pray she will be ok but something about the vets demeanour just gives me a bad feeling. Im gutted, been sitting here crying my bloody eyes out!

Get well soon Lucy

Gutted, just. Had to have beautiful Lucy put to sleep, she had kidney failure. Was there at the end, I could tell she had no fight, no fight left to get through this illness. Vet not sure if it was a birth defect or fron her habit of drinking dirty puddles. Rip Lucy, only with us 4 months an I loved you already

Oh so sorry - read this earlier and didn't post, just came back to see this. Know how you feel - we have lost 2 young cats to FIP, the youngest at 4.5 months. Some will not understand just how quickly you become very attached - they say pets leave pawprints on your heart and they certainly do. At least you were with her at the end and she didn't suffer as natural possibly distressed death. RIP Lucy.

I am so sorry to hear that. I can not imagine what that must be like.

Please notify her breeder though.

So sad and really feel for you,
at least you were able to do the decent thing for her, and save any more suffering.

Lucy when she was well. (or maybe when she was managing to hide the illness she was born with)

Rip Lucy 26/09/12 to 11/02/13.
I will always remember our short time together.
