Welcome Eve to your new home. She looks gorgeous.
We lost our rescue Greyhound, Loulou in March last year to a brain tumor at the age of 8. Thankfully we have a another one now. He is a rescue, but different. He is an Ibizan hound / Greyhound cross.

A bit of a thread resurrection here, but after re reading all my posts in here from just after we got Eddie I thought I should bring things full circle, We had to have Eddie PTS this morning, he was 12 and the vet thought he had a brain tumour, he had some nasty neuro symptoms and had lost 3kg in a week.
RIP Eddie
RIP Eddie

I'm sorry to hear that RIP Eddie
We have a lurcher and were considering getting another dog. We spoke to a greyhound rehoming charity at a dog show who suggested (with no pressure) we should just take one home for a couple of days and see how we got on... that's how they get you, how could you send them back!
Meet Ollie (Camsendjo).
Picture of him when being rehomed
Being black he's quite difficult to photograph, but he's almost unregonisable now - since getting a home he's filled out in all the right places and his coat is much better.
Unfortunately he is also broken some of the time...
It's been a long journey - it took us nearly 6 months to get him to sit, and he's struggled to bond with men in particular. He would also cower in fear when a palm was held out to him, which suggests that in the past someone has abused him
Ollie is lovely
The problems you describe are quite common in ex-racing greyhounds - they have often been treated pretty roughly, and most greyhound trainers are male.
Ref the sitting - most greyhounds aren't really built for it. I've owned several and none have been comfortable sitting.

I am really sorry to read this, he had a great home with you and such a contrast to his early days, something you must take great comfort in. So sorry for your loss RIP Eddie
Afternoon everyone.
I did post a thread about this at the time (March of last year), but there are posts on here from when we originally brought Herbie home with us.
We made the painful decision to say goodbye to him on March 31st last year. Thought about doing a separate thread, but if I'm honest I still struggle to type about it now.
This was taken the day before by our brother in law. I miss him every day. We are about £90 per month better off and life is certainly easier but I wouldn't say it was better. He was a lovely dog and we hardly met anyone who didn't immediatly like him. Very social and loved a good lean.
He wasn't weighed on the day, but we guessed that he lost in excess of 7Kg in weight and he does look painfully thin in this.
My wife wanted a baby and I said thats fine, shall we get a dog first, so we got a dog and then we had a baby. We lost the dog in March and we moved house in November. Moving house meant we lost my double garage where I would happily spend several hours a week tinkering with my classic Land Rover. In the past 8 months I've lost my much loved dog and my garage where I had the space to work on my Land Rover. They may seem trivial things to many, but both are significant.

As we still cant get used to having a whole sofa to sit on, we are going to the kennels on Saturday, the lady that runs it rang us up during the week to tell us about a dog that sounds perfect for us that is being returned by his owner as her hours have increased at work and she cant look after him any more, she only adopted him a few months ago. My mrs has gone from no, its too soon to booking him in with our dog sitter for our holidays and we havent even been to see him yet!

Keep us updated.
The adoption process has been massively shorter than the norm, he had already been spayed and had his teeth done as he spent the last 9 months in a home, but unfortunately his owner`s hours had increased and there were complaints from a neighbour about him crying when she was out at work.
We didnt need the normal home visit etc as we are fairly well known in the local RGT as we helped out a fair bit. Photo to follow when I get a good one
Meet Alfie
We went to a greyhound trust event a couple of weeks ago and mentioned to the local organiser that we were starting to think about getting another hound. Because of my wifes work as a childminder we were a bit limited with getting suitable dog, we wanted another black dog but he had to be house trained and child friendly. 3 days later she rang us up to say that a dog was having to come back into kennels after his owner had a change of circumstances and he would be perfect for us and did we want to see him.
He is lovely, really affectionate only downside is he really doesnt like being left at all but we are confident he will get used to it eventually

He's gorgeous, reminds me of my much missed boy Dylan. You know the answer to him not liking being left on his own - you'll just have to get another
