Just a thought really, but have you tried throwing treats into water? I've no idea whether it's a technique that works, but I'd have thought that a Retriever would do anything for a bit of food!

Everyone hug your dogs, every day - you never know when you won't be able to do that any more.

So sorry to hear that. I've always given Jackson plenty of love but he's been getting even more hugs since I almost lost him a while back. Like you say you can never be sure how long you've got with them.

What are the lumps that they get? Jackson's only 10ish and doesn't have any but my neighbour's Springer had them when he was 13/14 years old.

He's had a bit of trouble recently with his age and dodgy joints catching up with him but a cocktail of supplements have sorted him out and will hopefully keep him arthritis free for a few more years.
