Knowing how cats operate my first thought is that he regarded it as a toy and just batted it underneath something or through a crack in the floor etc.

If he has swallowed it, it's going to smart...

Very little chance it has swallowed it. More likely to have flicked it off the ledge or if your cat is like mine picked it up in it's mouth and taken it to a hiding place. Evert time we move furniture or the bed we find a cache of secreted items courtesy of the cat.

It will be hidden somewhere, only to be found when you rip the bathroom out!

Ours dislodged a plastic screw cover from our new hob. It cost nearly £10 to get a replacement. Six months later we found it behind the washing machine in the utility room.
