Our "indoor" cat went out yesterday, and managed to get herself shut in the garage, Lorraine never saw her even though she had just got off the bike. I only found her by chance as I heard the little "peep, peep" sound Peep (yes that's her name) makes vary rarely.

Posters are up and leaflets handed out.

Horrible thought but how long are cats able to survive without food or water?

I believe that him being locked up is the only logical solution. im tempted to go round each garage to see if i can hear anything.

Well over a week, closer to two and there are some who have gone 3-4 weeks.....

It's a good idea to go around though and call the cat (ours wouldn't call out to strangers).

Phone all the vets in the area.

We lost our cat for 5 days, we did door to door leaflet drops, phoned vets, resuce centres etc (she was chipped so increased our chances of getting her back if she was taken to any of these)

5 days later after going out day and night calling for her, we found her in someones back garden (their ckn wire fence backed onto a lane and I caught a glint of her eyes in the torchlight!!)

She had lost a fair bit of weight but recovered quickly.

So moral...keep searching. Our cat had been spooked and ran scared, when she came to a standstill she stayed put, I think she would have stayed there and died had we not eventually found her...daft cat.

Good luck, fingers crossed and don't give up.

agree, do it, I would knock at all nearby houses and ask if they would take a minute to check personally, If they are anything like us we can go a week or even two without opening the sheds or garage. It's so easy to lock them in and we have done it to our own cat recently and only realised when he didn't come in for his supper, and went and checked. and we also once heard him meowing from next doors shed and had to get him out too.

I had a phone call this morning from a nice lady saying she's seen two black cats in a nearby street. I went looking however they could belong to anyone! anyway had a look and didn't see him frown

Nice though knowing people are aware of a missing cat, the leaflets are doing its job. I went for a walk around the estate knocking on various doors and calling his name but to no avail. I'm still hopeful he'll turn up. thanks for the stories and messages. they really are keeping my spirits up!

I would definately be hopeful of him turning up! there are so many stories of them staying away for weeks etc! Unfortunatley in January my girl was found dead within 12 hours cry but its a good thing that your has not been found as it means there is always still hope!!

I can imagine your worry as the days tick by but hopefully the little monster will just wander back soon as if nothing has happened, good luck!

We've had cats disappear for days, weeks and even months and they've all come back. If they come back after a few days we presume they've been locked in a garage or shed, a few weeks and it looks like they're being fed and watered elsewhere. Lots of people will feed cats and maybe give it a roof over it's head, without realising it might be someone's pet and is being missed. The cats we've had have all been happy with this arrangement and milked it for a while before heading back home.

One cat disappeared and returned 4 months later. She was a lot bigger than when she vanished so it looks like she had been taken in and kept indoors. She's now 17 and still with us.

I'm sure yours will be back soon, behaving as if nothing has happened and wondering what all the fuss is about.

Recently on Emergency Animal Rescue on TV, ther was a tale of a cat possibly being locked in a garage for about two weeks . Came out thin, but well .

Many years ago our cat vanished for several weeks, we thought he'd gone for good and gave up hope of finding him.

One morning he just appeared on the kitchen table with that smug grin they always seem to have laugh

Good luck OP, I know it's terrible not knowing what's happened to them frown

The other possibility ~ work vans
Many moons ago back in the mid 80s a cat of ours went missing for just short of a week.
She'd climbed in to a friend's van who, as the crow flies, lived 2 miles away having done her own Fantastic Journey.
Still got fingers crossed for you, Magoo

After a night of misery for the wife our outdoor cat wears these on her collar.

http://www.loc8tor.com/uk/loc8tor-pet.html

Not exactly cheap but has traced her to a neighbours garage.

And when her collar starts bleeping she often seems to head back home.

The other one is terrified of 'outside' due to poor eyesight and having had a tough time as a stray.
