If you want a soft collar and can't get one from your vet, pm me and I'll send you one in the post, as every day goes by without complications, the less you'll need a collar, but until the tail is fully healed, it's possible that your cat could chew/damage the unhealed part.
Thank youI've found them on Amazon, so have ordered one - should be here tomorrow! (if they do what they say on the tin )
Just wondering, I know you can get hard plastic "covers" for the end of fingers, if you rip a fingernail off kind of thing.
They are oversized where the end of your finger is and for an inch or so, and then narrow to normal adult finger width.
Put them on, bandage them up at the narrow bit.
Don't know if something like that could be used to cover the end of the tail up and stop a cat cleaining it?
A bit like the "Plastic Finger Guard" here http://www.bluffcitywholesale.com/splints/finger_s...
My mum used to have one as I describe but they don't seem very popular now.

hahahahaha I've been looking at those this morning too!
Unfortunately, they won't fit & are a bit too heavy for the tail tip.
For now... I have loosely (but so it sticks) put Micropore tape on the fur about a cm either side of the shave. Then an eye patch from an eye bandage, covered in Micropore and 'joined' the whole thing together with Micropore, again, not tightly just so that there is a loose light covering stopping him from getting at the stiches.
He is running around the house like there is nothing wrong with him, and just came for a cuddle
Bast is still being a hateful bh - hissing and spitting at him, but he doesn't seem quite as worried about that now & nor is he depressed and scared

I'm a floor sleeper when needed too K. But then I think most of us here are
Fingers crossed, thank you so much for the suggestion!
How's Jenson doing? Bouncing around like it never happened?
Jenson is doing well thank you, not back to the same cat he used to be but I don't blame him after all he went through. Has started venturing back across the road now, guess he'll never learn. Makes my heart stop every time I see him running back across the road Fingers crossed, thank you so much for the suggestion!

I really hope the collar works, I have kept Jenson's even though it's falling apart as he never tolerated the hard collar.
Monte and Jenson have all their paws crossed for a speedy recovery

Tell him to CTFU.
I think we all might have missed a moment of comedy gold, right there! Heheheh! CTFU!I'm gonna tell mine to do that next time she's dithering around at the catflap, dying to go out for a wee, but eyeing up the rain with apprehension...
'Oy! CTFU! It's only rain, jeeez!'
Thank you, it occured to me but as he can get to the tip of his tail with it on, thought better of it!
We had a check up with the Vet today - he is doing well, stitches can come out next Thursday.

New, happier Pepi - this is an amazing device - worth every penny!! He'd kinda CTFU and got used to the cone of shame, but had to be carried up/down stairs and was really very unhappy in it. In this one he jumps, bounces, eats & sleeps happily!

Seeing that shaved and stitched tail brings back bad memories of Macavity's accident
Really pleased to see that Pepi is recovering, I bet that heals up perfectly. I wish ours had been injured during our own vet's opening hours, I'm sure he would still have his magnificent bushy tail if that had been the case.

Thanks Becks, it's in an awkward place to photograph!
Sorry Steve I'm lucky in that 'our' Vets do their own out of hours I guess; I got him to the surgery just before they closed, but the work was done out of hours - thank heavens for M&S Insurance as the bill so far is £310!
The inflatable collar is a Kong Cloud BTW, in small. It attaches to the cat's collar & velcro's up.
It really is well worth having one as a 'just in case' because of the difference it makes - Bast has stopped hising at him since it went on too!
