Thanks again guys! One of our older 3, Toby, has taken to them quite well, plays with Tilly and him and Poppy seem to be settling down with each other, hissing seems to have stopped so thats a good sign. Early days but at least thats one down!

4 out of our 5 are rescue (5, i can't believe that, Im now cringing every time that advert comes on with the lady and her many cats), the two boys (Toby and Ollie) were both orphaned at 4 weeks and hand reared which I was able to help with, which was incredibly rewarding, and were just lucky to be in a position to give them the best home we can. Its pretty much certain now that we cant have children of our own, and were in different places at the moment with regards to adoption, so they are all our little furry babies!

Nothing much to update, Tilly's test results came back positive for Coronavirus, which is common, and usually not a problem unless it mutates, which is not common thankfully. Just have to cross fingers really, but the nurse didn't seem undully worried. The little family seems to be finding its natural balance, still a little hissing at times, and Poppy spends most of her time alone upstairs (but craves attention when you go up, we are coaxing her down slowly and they are more or less all eating together now.

Tilly has firmly set herself up as the little darling of the group, she had her first play with Ollie today and even Molly has decided she's not so bad.

Toby, however.......well lets just say I think their both smitten:

Loving the pics esp the last one smile

Sadly the reasons you mention re dumping or wanting a pet put down are all too common.

We have had several cats (and dogs) pass through our doors either brought in as strays and never claimed or not wanted (the excuses!) we will get them signed over and rehome them.

We do have a genuine sign over at the mo, lovely guy, loves his cat, paid off a substantial bill few months ago (we kept the bill down aswell) but problem flared again. O' just doesn't have the funds. We have the cat now and I think one me our vets is going to have him smile

Definitely, absolutely no question he loved the cat but he just couldn't do the costs (sadly didn't insure) and it is likely to be an ongoing problem, but the vet feels she will be able to manage it. She liked the owner and the cat, so hopefully some peace of mind for the owner.

No Chance of him being able to get to the PDSA?

He didn't qualify frown, one of those border line cases. We did payment plan last time. Anyway what I was trying to say is it's not always uncaring owners but sadly too many handovers etc are.

Thought I would just add a little update, as Tilly is going to be neutered soon, and that always brings up mixed feelings so I thought Id report how they settled in.

Poppy has settled well, with the only problem being most of the others like to rough and tumble play, and can't seem to understand why she's not interested, which results in an occasional growl, hiss and sulk, but in the main, she's happy with a 'you stay there, ill stay here' outlook to life. Also got her eating wet food, and finally got her to use the catflap! She's put on weight and her coat is glossy, just how she should be!

And then there's Tilly....or 'Devil Child' to give her tongue-in-cheek nickname! After a feet under the table session, she calmly (or rather the opposite) proceeded to chew, claw and generally destroy anything remotely interesting, eat things that should not be, only master the 'up' part of tree climbing and make mornings a great game of 'find the kitten in the bed'. But how can you not love that innocent face??

And then theres her partner in crime, Toby. Inseparable dosen't quite cut it...

So, 5 cats, one house, two weary owners. But would we change anything? Nope!

What a lovely post. We're dog people but I think there's some room in the future for a kitten cat or two, I'll show this to the hubster and he'll be bound to agree. Thanks for being so lovely to animals, wish everyone was!

Its with a very heavy heart I finally update this.

Poppy was killed in an road accident in July. She had been missing for 2 weeks and searches and posters had proved fruitless. A kind person phoned us one day with the sad news that he had seen her body. At least we managed to recover her and bury her.

Tilly has been missing a week now with no sign. For the third time in a year the signs are printed, walks walked and hearts are broken.

The only up part is, we recently adopted a young black mummy cat who had needed rehoming and had been in for months, and passed over for the tabbys and gingers. She's a tiny thing whos very vocal and loves being picked up and held for a cuddle. Her name, co-incidently, is Poppy!

At least with Poppy (RIP) we know where she is. With Tilly, she is such a personable, fun loving force of nature its like part of us is missing. We are both truly, truly heartbroken.

I know not to give up hope, but it feels like a very black night.

I really hope you find her soon, so sorry for your loss of Poppy :-( . Is it possible Tilly got upset when the most recent cat was brought in to your home?
