You're doing the right thing, we all feel for you at this horrible time.

Sometimes it feels like the sadness when they have to go is not worth the pleasure they give when they are around.

But that is wrong.

Even those that are around only a short time enrich our lives, and we theirs.

I echo this wholeheartedly.

She's so lucky to have such a good, caring and loving owner; remember all the good times you had together.

Christ. So sad! frown Truly thinking of you. xx

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I really appreciate it.

It's been a hard day today. I know that as soon as it's done tomorrow I'll feel a relief that there's no more risk of her being in pain or suffering. But even now I keep thinking "what if...". But there's really no other option. Even if she lives another 2 years there's no chance she's ever going to have another good day, so it has to end frown.

We have another dog, a Lab, when we got him last year he gave her a new lease on life. She would never have made it this long without the energy and mental stimulation he gave her.
I had to make the same decision nearly 2 years ago. The vet made a comment regarding 'right' things at the time and it kind of stuck with me. He commended us on sorting things out before the bitter end. He said that far to many people go way past what should be acceptable.

I ponder did we do it to soon, but like you say it would have been a matter of time. Probably weeks of not a month and would have the same conclusion. You are doing the kindest thing.

Thoughts are with you.

Horrible feeling that last walk.
Back in August when we took our dog on her last walk I drove the car in silence with tears streaming down my cheeks.
Even now typing this I've got grit in my eyes.
