Neighbour dies in dog attack ! wtf
Discussion
Having been attacked by them when I was a paperboy/butcher's lad, jumped all over when the owner just says 'Awwww! it's just saying hello' and having their s
t3 spread over the pavements, I can safely say that I am not a fan of dogs but can see their use in hunting, working on farms and leading the blind.
Why would anyone in their right mind want 5 of those beasts in their home. It must stink to high heaven.
The smell in our house is bad enough and that's just from the kid's hamster. Another thing I don't agree with. Small things cooped up in cages.

Like you said initially, it's the owners that are the problem, not the dogs themselves.
Sorry to hear about your mother - such incidents make things doubly hard for those of us who are o(r were) responsible dog owners.
Trouble is even responsible owners can have pets that can suddenly 'go off on one' and some of these breeds are lethal when crazed/riled. What's the point of bringing into a family an animal with little rational thought and able to fight ferocioulsy on 'instinct' if it ever feels threatened? Working dogs under proper control, fine but this pet mania infecting our culture is mad - creatures clealy not designed for sitting around 23 hours a day in small cramped urban homes banged in willy nilly often surrounded by noisy, irritating touchy feely children with no concept of how close to playing with fire they get. I shudder when I see some of these interactions and am amazed there aren't more maulings.Sorry to hear about your mother - such incidents make things doubly hard for those of us who are o(r were) responsible dog owners.
As you say though, irresponsible owners are the big problem - often vermin who shouldn't be allowed a goldfish let alone a dog, or a child, with status symbol 'hard' dogs that they have bugger all care for or control of. Kill them all. Owners again, of course. Oh, and don't get me started on benefits scroungers with a £100 a week food habit hound...

I think that's the key bit. You're amazed, because your assessment of the risk is flawed. If the number of maulings matched your expectations exactly, you might have a point. ![wink](/inc/images/wink.gif)
Brown wolf lmao never heard a GSD reffered to as that, also never seen or heard of a dangerous GSD that wasn't a working dog
As others have said no one actually knows whats happened so it is possible they got excited as she was known to them and the over excitement gave her a heart attack
Surely if she was mauled to death there would be visible damage on her body which the article doesn't mention

Police and paramedics were called after neighbours described hearing 'hysterical screaming and barking' from Mrs Mason's garden.
Five dogs were later seized from the semi-detached property, and it was revealed that Mrs Knowles had had a heart attack as the animals set on her.
It is not yet known if she suffered a heart attack before or during the attack. A post mortem examination is expected to be carried out later today.
Another neighbour, Kevin Hamilton, described hearing screams from Mrs Mason's house at 5:15pm but mistook the noise, thinking it had come from one of Mrs Knowles's grandchildren.
Accountant Mr Hamilton, 65, who lives in the other house next door to Mrs Mason, described hearing 'hysterical screaming and barking' as he watched television.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: 'Police were called at around 6.25pm on Tuesday to reports of a 71-year-old woman found deceased at a residential address in Morden.'
He added that an investigation was under way to establish the cause of death, and said the woman had sustained a 'number of injuries'.
She may have received the "number of injuries" as a result of falling over? He added that an investigation was under way to establish the cause of death, and said the woman had sustained a 'number of injuries'.
Who knows.

Given that every reported case of a dog killing someone that I can remember, is the death of a member of the family who own the dog, then according to the above... aren't the dogs doing us all a favour? Hmmmm, hard to make head or tail from that report.
She possibly had a heart attack when the excited dogs jumped up her as she fed them, that's assuming they weren't trained... The screaming could have been her before it, or her Daughter witnessing
Conflicting opinions on the dogs, and a load of crap too - can tell they are vicious because they pulled their leads![rolleyes](/inc/images/rolleyes.gif)

Yep dogs pulling = savage beast! My Malamute must be very vicious, or just a dog bred to pull....![rolleyes](/inc/images/rolleyes.gif)
And my English Mastiff, would be more likely to drown you in drool or gas you with his violent farts!
I was thinking more of my old neighbours toy poodle - constantly pulled on her lead, the moment she saw anyone she knew, as the neighbour got older she used to just let go of her lead so Lottie didn't pull her over! She always threatened to tie her to a kids scooter so she could be pulled along ![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)

Jesus Christ some people need to get a grip.
We do not know she was mauled to death, all we know is that this possibility is being investigated.
Pathetic that the usual sheep are already beginning their whines 'we shouldn't keep dogs as pets, all dogs are aggressive'. Use your brain, how many people are killed by other people versus dogs? This POSSIBLE story is in the news because it's so rare, in 2010 over 650 people were killed in this country by other people.

Can't spot - or take - irony then? 'Sheep'? You seem to have the intellect of one. The self righteous woundedness of dog owners as soon as a hint of criticism of their beloved beasts is made is so funny; knew it wouldn't take long to bring it out! Would you give a good home to an abandoned troll, please? We do not know she was mauled to death, all we know is that this possibility is being investigated.

I wonder if it could have been self-inflicted, a set up; suicide by dog? Maybe to clear the way for an insurance settlement. Wonder if she knew of any terminal health issues? She possibly had a heart attack when the excited dogs jumped up her as she fed them, that's assuming they weren't trained... Or murder maybe. Did someone stand to benefit from her demise? Maybe sent her in with laced meat designed to drive half-starved canines into a frenzy? I'm waiting for a family member arrest. Or Martians, or Freemasons - definitley no proof in that story that the doggies are guilty.

By irony, I take it you mean the ability to read. 'Police are investigating whether a woman, aged 71, found dead at a house in south London was mauled by her daughter's dogs.'
Mr Hamilton said the animals, believed by the police to include one black/blue blood American bulldog, an American bulldog and a small mongrel, were "lovely dogs".
"It wasn't a cry for help or anything and I put it down to children being boisterous," he said.
"It wasn't a vicious sounding bark . I didn't recognise it as such."
I can take criticism sweetheart, what I can't take is assumptions, finger pointing and so far unproven accusations being made.
