£65 each for our two standard poodles. Though that is a groomer that comes to us with a van. So a bit more than local average for the convenience. Glasgow area.

Mrs Hippy is a dog groomer. Charges anything from £35 up to, and sometimes over, £100. It depends upon the dog, how difficult the groom is and how long it'll take to both complete the groom and clean up after. Matted dogs cost more due to wear on the tools, as do Bitey ones, as assistance is needed.

She insists the salon is completely cleaned between dogs so that every one walks into a very clean and tidy environment, even though this means doing less dogs/day.

At those prices, she actually doesn't actually make that much - uses high quality dog shampoo's and colognes etc which are expensive, sharpening/servicing of tools is costly and the whole procedure is quite energy intensive...

Personally, having seen the time and effort it takes, I think she undercharges....

Funny how we managed to cope for thousands of years without the need for dog groomers and yet now you'll find numerous ones on every high street.
Sheep didn't evolve to need sheering by themselves, either...

I guess you're not familiar with selective breeding for desired traits?

He has a valid point. People like to pamper their dogs these days. In the main, groomers aren't needed any more then nail bars.

You tell that to the neglected dog breed with matted hair.

We've developed breeds that need grooming. Whilst before that would have been an impractical burden, it's now the height of fashion.

Just like a thousand years ago a dog would happily be an outdoor animal. We've created breeds that do not thrive in outdoor conditions.

Yep, it's the height of fashion.

Most dogs at the groomers don't need grooming or perfuming. Dogs that get matted hair can be clipped or groomed by the owner without going to a groomers. It's a practical solution.
