Went to our local dog park on the long weekend here and met a guy who had an awesome malamute, German shepherd and an older husky, so Rocco quickly made friends and followed them around the park. biggrin
Hah, great..! Wish Sasha was more sociable with other dogs. :-( Love the Malamute.

Meanwhile, bluebells are out in garden.

Yeah I also loved the malamute, gentle giant but she was the boss of the group for sure.

As usual, great pic of the wolf too, she is awesome! thumbup

'Vocal' - sometimes he's like an old man the way he grumbles and moans biggrin

Does anyone know how much exercise it takes to wear out a 15 month old Sprocker? I still don't know.

This is after his longest run to date (15 miles with 3000ft of climbing). I'm lying on the sofa recovering, Ziggy wants to play fetch. With a twig. In the living room. And he won't take no for an answer!

For a while now we've been letting friends take him out during the day if neither of us are at home. Some days he does 5 or 6 hours of exercise. Sometimes im not even sure who he's out with. I think he's got more friends than me!

Fortunately once he's settled down and not absolutely bursting with manic energy he'll sleep like a log (a log thats constantly farting!) until someone disturbs him.

The more they have, the more they want. Try not to over-do it.

I'm haven't posted any follow up photos of the hound since we picked him up at 8 weeks old. Here he is on his first day home.

About 3 or so weeks later:

Now as a fully fledged adult some 5 years later. He's grown pretty well. They are very fussy with food and to top it off are not food orientated at all. Given his size, he doesn't eat that much either really.

He looks great, is he an Anatolian Shepherd/Kangal?

ETA - The first pic he is only 6 weeks old! Look at the paws too! eek

Yes, you're absolutely right, he is a Kangal dog / Anatolian Shepherd. There are so many arguments among owners as to whether or not they are called Kangals or Anatolian Shepherds but apparently it was something to do with how they were originally imported here. He's bloodline is 3/4 generations removed from dogs living in Turkey in the Sivas region.

And that was a typo on my part! He was 8 weeks old in the first photo. He's a little bigger now. He's over 10 stone and his front shoulders are somewhere between 34" to 36" to the floor but it's difficult to measure him as he doesn't like standing still.

He looks awesome! Bet you have no issues around your house with unwanted guests! biggrin

Even though that was a typo, he still looks huge for 8 weeks! smile

I've not seen many around but I think there is one living somewhere nearby my work, as I occasionally see it being walked.

I managed to over-exercise my 15mth old sprocker with a seven mile walk (for me, he must have done a lot more) and swimming (just for him).

He didn't seem tired at the end but he strained something and was limping the next day. The vet put him on painkillers.

I belive it’s law that when you own a kangal you have to take a picture of it on his back legs with his front on your shoulders.
Hey I don’t make the rules.

Does he get plenty of mental stimulation besides what he gets during walks?

I've thought about that. Ive never wanted to restrict a dog to just an hours walk around the block. That's why I didn't have a dog until I knew I could give him the freedom to do what he wants most of the time we're out. Over the last 8 months or so especially I've realised that an hour walking on the lead twice a day is a waste of time, its not even scratching the surface of what he needs.

He gets more exercise and more variety than any dog I've known. It sounds a bit crap when written down but just fetching, finding, following scents, chasing squirrels, flushing out birds, and just galloping along his favourite footpaths and farm tracks. Maybe I'm not doing the right type of activities though. What sort of things did you have in mind? Are there specific things that will give him.more of a mental work-out?

Meet Champ the cockapoo at 9 weeks old. I did post a few pages back asking whether it’d. E right to get another one after a relationship break-up and the ex getting the dog but thankfully she sees my reasoning and is happy for me. Still a little strange having a pup and not a fully grown bundle of fluff but il get there.

As a big boxing fan ‘Champ’ seemed an appropriate name and I couldn’t resist getting a replica world title belt for a collar haha

Our 2yr old (rescued at 11mths) gets an hour a day off lead countryside walk, occasionally less. Our previous WCS got the same for nearly 14yrs with the odd beach walk or visit to somewhere different thrown in.

From time to time my OH will scatter small chunks of fruit or veg around the garden for them to sniff out & this time of year we may play witht hem in the garden of an evening.

Quality is much more important than quantity to a spaniel & you will NEVER wear one out!

Our Sprocker regualrly has a slight limp, never lasts very long & is never very bad so we just keep an eye on him.

Something we never had with our WCS, maybe it's a Sprocker thing? (Though my previous one didn't suffer).

Anyway, a picture of the crazy bd!
