Hopefully cat is back by now, but just to add some hope...
My missus' fat house cat climbed (fell) out a first floor flat window (you could see the scratch marks on the frame).. it was a vertical drop and the cat was no-where to be seen.

Much like what you've done inform everyone, post up notes and be prepared to travel anywhere at any time.
had loads of false alarms and false sightings...
She was really upset, the place is teeming with foxes :S
but, one night after 3 weeks missing (yes 3 weeks!!), Sam caught glimps of a shadow heading into a shed just as she happened to be looking out of the window.

She ran downstairs, over the road, and peered into the shed... and there she was. Poor little thing was cold very very thin, matted and very nervous.
Sam literally dragged her out the shed despite all the hissing and scratching. After a check up at the vets, a good wash and a few tins of food (she ate like she had never eaten in her life), she was back to normal.

Where I was going with this, is that on telling the vet the story, they said it's not unusual for the pets to be 'very' close to home and often owners check much further afield than actually where the pets would be.
Not sure how true that is, but animals can be extremely resilliant, so stick with it, and best of luck.

Sad situation! A lost dog notice with a photograph has been placed on fences in my locality with a contact number and 500 reward for finding it. I suspect the dog has been stolen, although I hope the owner is reunited with their dog!

One of my cats had been fighting, had a bite on his head, this had created an abscess which caused his face to swell up on one side.

Booked an apt at the vet, don't have a cat box as he ate the last one so put him in a sports bag, took over 10 mins to wrestle with him to get him in the bag and to close it. During the short drive to the vet he broke outand went mental in the car, when he panics he loses loads of fur so this was flying everywhere. He then takes a dump all over the back seat and floor. Smell was incredible.

Due to road works it wasn't possible to drive a car to the vets so had to abort and drive him home, pulled up and he calmly walked out of the car as if nothing had happened.

50 later and the car is clean again.

Possibly going to have to repeat this as he still needs to see a vet.

Will take the wife's car

Serves you bloody right, you can't put a cat in a closed sports bag. You can get a basic cat carrier for 20 and every responsible cat owner should have one, or have access to one. Would you like somebody to stuff you in a suitcase next time you need to see a doctor!

Well it's now been three weeks and I hate to think it but I'm slowly coming to terms with the fact he's gone frown

I have never loved an animal as much as I loved him and will make sure I will never again. Probably sounds ridiculous but he really did make my day when I saw him. Little things like how he used to snuggle up under my quilt at night like he owned the place. Or him collapsing in a heap on my legs when I watched TV.

Still miss him as much as yesterday frown

Don't be so sensitive, it's a cat.

Not sensitive at all. Your poor cat has just been put through an extremely stressful situation made all the more worse because the poor thing was put into a bag.

There are reasons why there are proper cat boxes available.

Sorry to say that it was a judgement error on your part this time. But I'm guessing it will be not repeated.

Oh and never say it's just a cat here, especially when you are posting on a thread of someone who has lost theirs!

Who me ?

First , I agree with Bex. It's not "Just a cat" - it's a pet, that trusts and expects respect from you.
Second, if no cat box available, WHY not go out and find one.
I'm not a catty person ,but I treat all animals as friend.I don't allow my dog to harass cats, I encourage him to make friends with them ,unless they're in the front garden , digging up seed bed ,when I will let terror out to remind cat to go elsewhere to do it's business.I've taught my bloke to make friends with a three legged cat .Once upon a time ,it legged it up a tree, now it gets doggy, and wants to sniff him ,as a dog would. He's amused and loves the attention . I just love all animals, something I'm trying to pass on to him .

Be aware that putting a cat in a zipped up bag MAY constitute cruelty under the Act. It's not "just a cat", it's a living animal which the law says you may not harm or cause unnecessary suffering.

OP, don't be too disheartened, and your cat may still come home. It is amazing just how long a cat can stay out for, and them come strolling back like nothing has happened.

We had one of ours disappear for 6 weeks once, he just jumped back over the fence as if nothing had happened, he was a bit skinnier than when he left but is ok now.

OP - I hope he's found.

A suggestion for postering / leafleting is to state the amount of the reward you're offering for his safe return - and make it a substantial one.

Where I live there is a suggestion that the traveller community are behind a spate of dogs and cats going missing: post reward notices (500 quid seems to be the going rate) and quelle surprise someone with a tarmac-laying accent will phone to say they've 'found' it.

I know exactly where you are. Our little girl has been gone 3 weeks today - can't see where the time has gone. None of it makes any sense, completely out of character for a very sedentary (lazy!) girl but in the space of 30 mins she has just vanished.
I know every piece of hedge in a mile radius intimately and all our neighbours have kept an eye out, lots of dog walkers out and about, leaflets and a reward. She even wears one of these loc8tor tags which have proved very useful in the past but absolutely nothing this time.
Sadly I'm not expecting her, I wish I was. There are plenty of stoies of animals reappearing or being found many weeks later so hopefully you're with me and there is always hope but it seems to dimish as the days go by.
Fingers crossed they turn up.

I'm writing this with the biggest grin on my face, after a little over two months I awoke this morning to a familiar meow. Yep, he has returned!

After scoffing down some food he's now collapsed in a heap on my bed fast asleep. Shall post pics up later today. It's like the little st has never been away! He's still the cuddly cat he always was. I could not be happier. Thank you for the messages and stories. Il admit I gave up hope but it just goes to show that you shouldn't. I now plan on making a fuss of him all day. biggrin
