Our 5 month old kitten plays fetch.

Cats can be taught to play a lot of games, they just take a bit longer to train than say, a dog.

Our Bengl loves to play fetch. He will also sort through the toys in his toy box to find the one he wants, then put the others back! he will then bring said toy to you for a game of catch!

I had a cat that played fetch.
I'd sit lazily on the sofa, I'd fling the ball (plastic with a bell inside) out the room, down the hall into back yard. Cat would collect it and deposit it on my lap.
Amusing and interesting to watch smile

Of course it would NEVER do this when I'd tell people and try to demonstrate.
Instead it would look at me with a blank stare.
People thought I was going a bit mad.

I learned today that my friends cat doesn't just sit when asked he will also hold out his paw. Whilst he does this he cocks his head to one side.
She showed me video of him doing it, it's amazing too watch, took her months for him to get it right though!

One of ours, a tortioseshell called Lola, plays fetch. I'm trying to teach her to retrieve "to hand" at the moment.

Perhaps combine this with a reward. Like 1 cat biscuit.

Pavlov's methods work and you can end up with a cat that does allsorts.

Next step is to train him to use the toilet.

I have a tabby that loves this 'fetch' malarkey. She has foam balls that I can throw about the house and she'll fetch them and drop them at my feet. She'll then wait at my feet ready to pounce again.

I bought this pet toy, a plastic stick with a fur ribbon attached to it. She plays fetch with that too! Quite funny watching her straddling the stick as it trails between her legs.

She'll sit next to a tin of sweets waiting for the wrapper. She could be in another room... as soon as that lid is off, she's back!

My cat socks names as he has 4 white paws taught him to do all sorts of tricks from liying down, giving me his paw, when hes was little he wouldnt play with any cat toys but would love to chase a ball of foil around the room for ages, if he was desperate for going to have a wee he would sit over the plug hole in the bath his face was a picture when i saw him doing it, he growls like a dog at anybody going past the window and watch fireworks going off know mind you he just either sleeps, goes out or wants attention at 5 in the morning but couldnt imagine life without him

One of ours taught himself to play fetch - no input from us, he just sussed that if he brought things back, we'd throw them for him again. And then he worked out how to play catch too. He'd sit half way up the stairs, we'd throw things to him, he'd catch them in both paws and throw them back! Astonishing. He was only 6 months old too. He'd be an amazing cat now if he hadn't gone and got himself run over 4 months later. RIP Jonesey.

my cat fetches and is very 'doggy' like in nature in general. As mentioned it's quite common with siamese etc although mine is a boggo rescue moggy.
