Cooper at 6 months - his first time on the beach. This is him after having just run headlong into the sea to say hi to a seagull.
Unfortunately we've decided to rehome him: neither my wife nor my son have taken to him (he's a bit too boisterous and messy for them) and he deserves a family that'll give him the love and attention he deserves.

Lovely looking pup and I hope he finds the loving home he truly deserves.

What is he? Springer? Springer cross?
Are you going to use a rescue to rehome him?

Sorry to hear that.

Working cocker. My wife has been in touch with someone to advertise him. That way we can make sure he goes to the right family. What is he? Springer? Springer cross?

I'm heartbroken - I've wanted a dog for more than 20 years and thought he'd be a great fit for us (and good for my mental health) but my son's scared of him and my wife, having never had a pet before, was happy to try having a dog but just can't get on with him.

Our collie was a bugger when we first got him, with my daughter (who was very late teens at the time) reduced to tears at times with his pin sharp puppy teeth, but we persevered and for the vast majority of his life he's been perfect: does as he's told on and off the lead, perfect recall, behaves at home when we're not there, plays happily without getting overly boisterous, good overnight, understands instructions and so on and so on.
It doesn't happen overnight and takes work and commitment, but it's so worth it. I would love to think your family reconsidered and made a proper go of it.

Have you been in touch with the breeder to see whether they'd take him back? They may have a waiting list.
Otherwise, this is a specialist spaniel rescue which has a very good reputation.

I’d tend to agree that 6 months is a bit soon to make such a decision as they are going to be ‘like a puppy’ for a while yet because they are a puppy still.
Obviously if it’s really not working for you or the dog then going via a proper rehoming place is better then putting him on Gumtree etc.
I’d be tempted to speak to the breeder (if he came from the proper channels) as someone said up there, they could place him with someone else or keep him themselves.
Seems tough to be heartbroken though, I hope your end of things have been properly considered in the decision too?
If you do re-home, could you update (PM if preferred) as would certainly take at look at him for myself.
Good luck, hope for him and you that you decide to give him a bit more of a chance to grow into your lives a bit more.

I have no words. What on EARTH did you expect? you have a high drive WORKING dog!!
Poor poor dog ffs
Please contact a specific Spaniel rescue who will conduct proper home checks
I would suggest if you cannot choose and appropriate breed for yourself then you are equally ill equipped to choose a new home for the poor dog. He will end up being rehomed again and again by idiots who don't understand working dogs and end up with serious behaviour issues.

Maybe this should be taken to a different thread as this is not really the place to get angry. Just a thought.

This is so sad. Dogs are boisterous and very very messy. That’s why we love them. Please do speak to the breeder (I really hope he didn’t come from a puppy farm) as they’ll have people lining up who know what they’re getting into.

Yep fair comment I accept that, I have said all I will say on the subject. Humans cause ALL the problems that dogs have = it breaks my flipping heart. Maybe this should be taken to a different thread as this is not really the place to get angry. Just a thought.
