Yesterday was 8 years exactly since this fluffball came home.

He grew into the nicest, gentlest dog I’ve ever known.

This morning he wasn’t right. His breathing was laboured and he wouldn’t stand up. We took him to the vet. He was bleeding out internally. An ultrasound showed lesions on his spleen with some spread to his liver. It was this. The vet offered us a treatment option, but it was unlikely to succeed and would at best buy him a few months with no quality of life. Not a good option. We let him go. They did it in the back of my car in the car park because of Covid, but it was on his own blanket in familiar surroundings.

I always knew this day would come, it’s part of the price, but it came far too soon. This dog saw me through the worst time of my life. I shall miss him dearly. Goodbye Parker, old pal.

Mate, there’s no words that can make that better. That is just st, I’m so sorry for your loss. 8 years is not enough. I mean, I’d put money on it being a bloody awesome 8 years, but that’s no consolation at all. All the best to you bud.

I'm so very sorry. I've lost two dogs to hemangiosarcoma; they call it 'the silent killer' frown

Parker was lucky to be so loved, and he was very handsome. So sorry for your loss.

I’m always devastated when I read these posts as it brings me right back to the day I lost my boy. I am so very sorry for your loss.

Dogs do wonders for the human ego. They love us unconditionally, and ignore all our flaws and faults. They only see the best possible version of us. It makes the decision to keep a dog, to choose to look after this creature and care for them and provide them with everything they need in life, an obvious choice for me.
They reward your kindness tenfold. Equal parts our friends and our therapists; the title of “man’s best friend” is in my view well deserved. But if dogs have but one fault, it would be their life span. They have an incredibly unjust length of time on this Earth relative to their good nature.

Thanks chaps. He had a good life, and was very much loved, and that's what matters.

That’s absolutely all that matters.

Sorry for your loss otolith, everyone who has lost one of their furry best mates will sympathise with the pain and sorrow right now.

Not a particularly 'special' photo, perhaps, except to us. Sam and his brother Jet together last night, after Sam returned from a seven day stay at the vets. We weren't sure that he would be coming back at all, hence why it's special.

Anyway, have a photo of Lila with all her chums at her doggy daycare to help calm us down. And breathe...

I’m glad Sam is back home. How is he doing?

Thanks for asking. He (touches wood, crosses everything) is doing great so far. Eating everything we're putting in front of him and wanting more; so different from 10 days ago. He's been out for a short walk in our fields today but we'll be taking it slowly hoping to build his weight back up. Vets want an update tomorrow and to see him back for more blood tests next week, assuming all continues to be well.
