As I'm working overseas, it is the wife's job to take the kids camping.

Before she had finished packing the car, Otto was aboard.

Lovely dog.

I don’t want to pee on your chips, but I can’t see the dog restraint (cage, harness etc).

Your wife might find herself being stopped and fined if she’s going to or through France.
She is not going through France.
It is still a good idea to have your dog secured in the car. In the event of an accident a dog weighing what 20kilos plus crashing into the back of someone's head could end up very badly and not just for the dog.
I know someone will quote an example of where it happened as proof we're all going to die in a fiery ball of death every time we take our dogs out in our cars but that dog isn't going anywhere, restrained or not, except to its holiday destination.

Actually, my warning was more aimed at the wallet-emptying proclivities of the gendarmeriesmile.

Back from deepest darkest Cornwall. No internet for a week so it’s lovely to catch up with all the lovely photos. Lila finally made it to the seaside - as I’d hoped, she absolutely loved it.

A quick snooze after a day’s surfing.

Then off to the pub for a warm frothy pint of wonderful Cornish ale.

I guess the solution is to not crash in the first place.

I recall going in a Volvo training course in early 2000’s in Sweden, the pics/videos of unrestrained/loose things flying round cars were horrific,
Not only the dogs & cats but stuff like umbrellas left on parcel shelves & the like, was even a calculation they used for working out impact loads- even a box of tissues was fairly unpleasant after its high speed journey to the front seats
Dog is in his box or behind a factory dog guard at all times

No seat belts for you or the kids then eh?

Look let's not ruin one of the best threads on PH. All I said was it is a good idea. Let's move on.
