Hello, and a query about my dogs paws
Discussion
So I tried the vaseline on his paws last night, it seemed to make a big difference. He's still a bit careful on them, and occasionally limps a bit, but there was almost no bleeding when we got back in. He must have liked it because he was quite happy for me to put more on this morning before I took him out.
Hopefully the boots will turn up today!
Karyn, they're bleeding from basically the top of pad where the hair starts.

Huzzah! Sounds promising!
Ignore me, really - I was just wondering if there might be another reason they were bleeding... the only cracked pad experience I have, they cracked and were sore right on the fleshy base of the pad and "up the side", as it were... which was a fair bit below the hair-line.
But every pooch is different... if the vaseline seems to be working, then onwards! Fingers crossed it continues to help him

Is it worth sticking to short walks on the lead for a few days? That might give his paws chance to heal and you some time to work on his pulling.
I suggested that already, OP can't manage it... Plus, he intimated that the dog likes to run (off-lead?)... which led me down the path of thinking that perhaps his paws were bleeding from other reasons...
Hi both,
Yeah, I'm trying not to let him run at the moment, he is getting better on the lead too. I'm giving him short walks currently so he can do his business, but minimise paw damage. I was expecting him to be full of energy and consequently harder work for a few days, but he seems to be settling into our home and he's very much calmer than last week when he was brought home.

First off, well done you for rescuing a staffy from a shelter. There are far too many of these lovely dog's without homes.
I can't add to what's already been said about his paws but you did mention his snorting and snoring. Well, you may get used to them along with farting too. All well known staffy traits and the snorting is his way of communicating with you. Given time you'll understand him like he's talking to you lol.
