I have a bad feeling about this, but it might not be.
My beautiful 12 year old german Shep has just started poohing without knowing it. Usually as he is walking around, but last night in his sleep.
He is getting a bit stressed about it.

The pooh itself is more pale than usual and very dry-it also smells like chemicals, rather than the usual disgusting dog pooh smell.

Could it be treated, or does he have some sort of liver issue? Or just plain old incontinence.

Other than this, he is still like a puppy and very happy and playful.

All help appreciated.

Oh, and he is at the vets today, but I am just so worried its the end that I thought I would ask.

Please try not to think that just yet. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a worry but I don't believe you need to decide anything yet. See what your vet says, there maybe something they can do. Fingers crossed for him.

I can understand you would be worried, but wait and see what the vet says smile

It could be that he has a bit of nerve degeneration and so doesn't know when he needs to go.

Hope all goes well.

Well he has been to the vets.

he was quite positive-he popped his finger up there and said his muscles were good. he also mentioned that he might have a bit of altzhiemers (sp?) and forgets to go and doesnt know he is doing it.

And he also said he appears tender on his rear back-suggested that it might be a damaged disc issue which are fixable.

Anyway, he is having an MRI tomorrow which will show anything and everything.

Fingers crossed!

Yeah all the best for you both, wishing you luck.
Plus vets are superb these days and it may be nothing too serious, fingers crossed for ya's.

Our 16 3/4 yr collie has been doing this for a year now. In fact before that she had been wetting her bed (an old armchair in the corner of our bedroom)- but thankfully that's past.
One of the main challenges is for you to be more forgiving of behaviour which is not 'normal' (what you have known for the last decade). Also adjusting your activities further with your dog.
What's great for us is that ours still loves food, and starts play sessions with her younger mates - even if she is somewhat wobbly on her legs.
