Dog Collars - Recommendations
Discussion
We pick our Lab pup up next Sat and I am looking into which collars are the best to get him.
I have a puppy collar but require something for as he grows. I would ideally like to spend £15 or less after all the other set up costs incurred so far![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
These are four I have shortlisted, but would also appreciate recommendations:
Ferplast Ergocomfort
Timberwolf Leather
Kennel Club/Scruffs
Canac Adjustable

Take yourself and puppy down to the local 'pets at home' and you can try some on.
There are differing views on what works best when training. I am inclined to think that the collar should be something separate and comfortable, but something you can grab on to if needs be.
No diamanté though!

Silverthorn, what do you mean by separate and comfortable? loose on neck but with strong clasp?
I think a snap type fastening would be preferable providing they are strong enough.
One doesn't have to train a puppy by attaching a lead to its collar. Although I have an older dog who is very well behaved she does pull a little sometimes. I have a variety of leads and some are slip leads and some clip on to her collar. A collar should be something that the dog is comfortable wearing all the time and robust enough for you to grab and exert some control over if needs be.
I actually don't like the clip collars, preferring the traditional buckle type. She feels undressed without her collar on after a bath and worries us until its back in place.
I have a length of small section rope that I have formed into a lead as well. It has a loop at the holding end and a loop half way down so that I can have it at two lengths. That either clips onto her collar with a cheap light karabiner or its on a slip collar that goes on over her existing one.

after a lot of research i went with these about £12

i decided comfort was what i wanted.
Also has nice touches like shiny bits around the edge and the buckle is clip type which i find useful no faffing trying to get it on.
We found the XS velcro was a bit rubish for adjustment as its too thin but the S collar is great already bought a M for when he grows

Our terrier has an ezydog harness, good bit of kit. I prefer the harness it clips into a car seatbelt and if he pulls, if I have to pull or "guide" (think eating horse poo) I think it's more comfortable for both of us. The collar just has his tags on.http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedd...

Have an adolescent working line labrador (approx 28kg) and after various webbing collars have also gone with a large ezzydog neo collar.
He swims in the sea regularly so the fact it's made of neoprene, (same stuff as wetsuits) is a bonus as it dries quickly and collar doesn't stink when it's wet or after so reduces skin irritation. It's also sturdy.
Also have a one of these on it http://www.indigocollartags.com/tags.htm it fits on the velcro section.
I take collar off when he's safe and inside at home for safety, comfort and coat condition reasons.
I prior toyed with idea of ezzydog quick harness but persevered with heel training until pretty much sorted........glad I didn't give in.
