For the past few nights I have woken up to hear meowing in the kitchen. Our cat is sleeping upstairs so I go down to investigate. I find a grey cat that has been hanging round our garden recently has come through the cat flap into our kitchen. So I scare it out. Happened for a few nights now.
Any suggestions?

Now, don't shoot me down as I am no cat expert. Is it that time of year when female cats come into season as the strange cat's meows remind me of when I had two female cats who were in season and called during the night.
The cat looks rather unkempt and we think it has a collar but we cannot get close to it to check as it always runs off before we can get close.
I don't really fany spending £70 for a cat flap that might be a different size than the one we already have.

I've got the Super Soaker primed and the cat flap set so it can only open inwards. If it comes in it is going to be terrorised with water!
Mwahahah!

Why not just lock the cat flap for one night?
Because it is liable to come back the night after.

At 1am I heard some strange meowing so I went downstairs, primed the Supersoaker, opened the kitchen door and unloaded its contents over the strange cat.
Cue lots of hissing, scared meowing and scrabbling to get out of the locked cat flap.
SWMBO opened the front door and we chased a sodden cat out the door!
Fingers crossed it will nor come back to visit.
Was very satisfying
Mwahaha!

The Supersoaker tactics worked.
We didn't have any strange cats enter the house last night.
Fingers crossed this is a success.

Still no unwanted felines coming through our cat flap.
So my advice if you have any undesirable cat visitors is make sure the cat flap can open inwards but not out, close the door to that room and get a Supersoaker and empty the contents over it before chasing it out the house.
That memory should certainly remind it not to cross our threshold again!

This.

It's not as if decent catflaps are particularly expensive these days.
I looked into that and for the ones that had decent reviews and appeared to work were £70 plus also it might not fit the hole already in the door.
