Alan has come to some mischief. Currently sat at emergency vet. Limping, yowls if you touch his back. Will eat if taken to food. Will walk slowly and clambered onto sofa before capture.

Car strike?

No I'm pondering in public while I'm bored in a waiting room. The cats not up to much conversation, so I thought I'd ponder here.

Edited because being bhy probably wasn't called for...

We were in half a mind to leave it till morning. Until he made noise when stroked. He's silent normally. So something is up. We could really use a cat translator.

I'm not sure the cat before us is going to be leaving frown

Depressing place after hours.

Evidence points to a big fight with something grey. And a large abscess between shoulder and elbow. Possibly a fall as well as moving his hips really pisses him off.

I'm going for cat fight on a shed finishing in a fall.

Could be worse. Just waiting for the bill...

Yes fortunately he's insured. £170. Inspection (Lovely polish bloke. Thought he was welsh to start with), 3 injections, metacam, and antibiotic tablets.

I only got a text today from petplan about scraggies latest claim.... Seems like I visit the vets on a daily basis.

Ho hum. Lets see how we get on keeping him in for a few days!

Did they mention lancing the abscess? Esp if it is large,
No mention of lancing. Just that it was possible it might ooze. And if it does don't worry too much...unless the antibiotics have run their course.

I say large. His upper leg is clearly swollen now we know to look. I'd say it's about 1.3 times the width of the good one. Including fur.

I'll keep my eye on it and hopefully it'll start getting smaller from tomorrow. Presumably it'll take a while before the antibiotics really get to work.

No cone of shame.

Legs still swollen this morning (expected), but speed has picked up again! He's just run full tilt down the stairs and jumped onto a PC desk to look out the window.

A distance photo (otherwise he just head butts the camera). But I think you can make out that his left leg is bigger than his right.

hoping Alan's leg is better! he is rather handsome!
Thanks. He's feeling a bit better we think. He's turned into "I love you" cat, and seeking a damn good fussing. Where normally he's "I permit you to be in my presence" cat. So he's clearly still ill and his leg is still swollen.

Getting him to take his antibiotics is hard work though. So far the only success we have had is crushing the tablet, and smearing it onto a bit of ham. We tried chicken, with the tablet embedded whole, but he managed to separate the chicken and tablet in his mouth and spat out the tablet. We tried smearing the crushed tablet on chicken, but he refused to eat that at all. He just about accepted chicken smeared with tablet, wrapped in ham.

Any suggestions on how to get the tablet into him easier (and involving less ham which I don't think is too good for him) appreciated! (I'd suggest we stick it up his bum but I don't think the OH would be keen)

You know we might give this a try. If it's doesn't go in the cat I know who will eat it... smile
