Hi all, Just a warning, You may have seen stuff in the press this week, well it was nearly too late for us.

Sunday we took ours out on a big long walk, Sunday night he was ill, and throughout the night must have been sick a few dozen times. Mostly bile, but he was retching every 20 mins. Obviously concerned as he had lapped from a stagnant semi-frozen pond in the forest, but took him straight to the vets.

They couldn't see anything, or feel any blockages so suggested an x-ray. An hour later they said the x-ray showed something in the lower intestine. but they couldn't be sure what it was.

We took the advice to open him up an see.

Well they rummaged about and flushed out his intestine. Lots of grit and semi digested debris. This was causing a lot of gas, which had swollen the whole thing up and effectively closed it down.

As it was mostly digested there is no way of really knowing what it was, and despite us being careful about washing paws after a walk, we think he had somehow got road grit into his system.

He is fine ( or at least he will be) and on the road to recovery. But this week has been emotional

Thanks, Yeah it was touch and go, we were especially concerned as we have a friend who lost a beagle after a peach stone got lodged, and they delayed getting her checked out.

That pic of the bruising was the day after the op, the redness is much better now. However, is Arnica recommended in cream or tablet form?
