No idea whether this should be here or Homes, Gardens etc - mods please feel free to move as appropriate.

Now, I should start by saying that I don't mind dogs, good friends have them and they seem to love licking me, so not a problem.... smile

I moved into my house in December (so yes the dogs were here before and No, I didn't notice them on the viewings I had), but now I'm in seemingly in most of the gardens which adjoin mine are dogs, which don't seem to like each other (or me) or like a good chat via barking.....which is fine most of the time, but they seem to be out in all weathers including the recent snow and clearly aren't used to people (me) being in my garden (new build house) so bark at me a lot.

My slight challenge is that they bark during the night, and very early in the morning, probably meaning they live outside, and have started to wake me up during the night - once one starts the others seem to follow naturally. I'm guessing they must be cared for but is it normal to leave them out overnight and should the owners be trying to at least keep them a little quiet between say midnight and 6am ? Or are these just unhappy about being left outside all the time and vocalise it ? I'm assuming they're OK but friends who have dogs don't leave them out almost permanently so to me seems a little odd.....

Can I issue them with a S59/ASBO wink LOL

I could try and find the owners, in case they aren't aware but that could be tricky as even on an aerial map I can't out where the one house with 3 dogs is let alone which lane I'd need to walk down to find it.......

I can live with the odd bit of disturbance (even if it isn't great sometimes), I'm more concerned for the welfare of the dogs tbh, as it seems rather mean to buy one then not spend any time with it.....

Are they working dogs or pets?

By the way whatever the answer it doesn't excuse the owners from showing some consideration to their neighbours and ensuring the dogs are quiet, however it might answer your question about why they're outside and whether they are cared for or not.
From what I can see they're domestic pets, a couple of German Shepherds in one garden with another I can't identify and a spaniel in another.

My aunts neighbour has started complaining about her dog barking, which it does for about five minutes in a 24 hour period. We have seen him on his knees, his side of the adjoining fence trying to get her dog to bark while he's recording any noises the dog makes.

That sounds bonkers........these ones might get used to me in my garden in time which is cool, it's more middle of the night that seems strange
