Had a frantic call from OH saying the birds nest has fallen from the house and there are four chicks in the garden. RSPCA didn't want to help, they only rescue non-feathered birds apparently!

Came home and was greeted by these...

I phoned the RSPB for advice and they advised me to create a makeshift nest from a tub and place it back where it fell from, best I could come up with was this.....

I placed the remains of their nest in it too.

I literally have no idea if I've done right or wrong. They didn't seem injured, they scurried about and spread their wings fully when I scooped them up. Should I have given them food? If so what?

I couldn't just leave them on the ground they'd have been a cat's dinner in no time!

Should have named the thread "Bird's nest has fallen". The nest was on the ground, but I think it hit the window sill, then landed on the lawn. So don't think they had too much of a bump.

RSPB lady said they were probably Housemartins. As I was heading back to work one of the chicks was standing on the edge of the red tub and an adult bird was flying back and forth feeding it I think!

Edited for rogue apostrophe.

i would suggest that all of them trying that together may give you the reason the last one fell down!
I'm guessing that and the weight of their crap had something to do with it, judging by the amount deposited over the window sill and garden from where it fell! The new nest is held in place with 2 x 2 inch screws, should be a bit more gravity proof now!

Just seen the Mother flying back and forth to the "nest" and can hear chirps coming from it smile

Haven't heard any tweeting from the "nest" for a while, got the ladder out to have a look.

2 didn't make it frown But on the bright side I suppose that means the other two did.
