The UK is lovely to go on holiday thread

We hired a small boat from Caley Cruisers(never driven a boat prior to this) and took it from Inverness down through all the Canals and Lochs to Fort William.
Stunning views and a nice get away from hustle and bustle.
All the lock keepers and other boat owners were really friendly.
One for the bucket list.

I've just got back from a lovely week in Devon. Based in Totnes & hit the beaches & moors. Cornwall is nice but being Devon born & bred I am a bit biased!
Average temperatures were the same as when we went to Menorca last year, a little bit warm for the 5 month old boys but great for the rest of us.

We're off for a week in Bridport running up to the August Bank holiday. We're renting an apartment overlooking West Bay, so will be 30 seconds from the beach. We've been here a lot since my mother in law moved down a few years ago and we love it.
Hopefully this good spell of weather lasts out, I hear the sea temperature has hit 20C due to the warm weather this year so I might even be tempted to have a dip! This is the week of the Melplash Show, the Bridport Carnival and Martin Clunes's funny dog/horse/country show so on top of the usual local cider, Palmers Ales, good food, great scenery, fossil hunting, crabbing, mackerel fishing, the local music and arts scene, there will be a fair bit to keep us entertained.
My wife calls me "Dorset Prand" after a day or so down there, as I stop stressing about work & my wider woes, stop shouting at the kids and turn into a chilled out smiley country bloke happy to sit in a pub garden overlooking the Marshwood Vale with a pint or two of Dorset Nectar Dabinett watching the world go by (usually some tractors and a couple of horses) with the only worry being what I fancy for dinner.
Secretly though, my brain is still furiously doing the sums and balancing priorities whether we could cash in our West London semi, move away from my troublesome wider family, buy a small farmhouse with 10 acres, convert outbuildings into guest rooms or build a field full of glamping yurts with a stonebaked wood fired pizza business on the side, while still commuting up to the Thames Valley contracting while it all gets established. It might happen one day!

Great to hear this about Cornwall - we're going for two weeks on Saturday. I've now lived in England for 25 years and never been down that way. Holidays are usually abroad or back to Scotland so this will be a new experience.
Really looking forward to it ....and making notes on the places to visit !
