Been following this thread with interest as LV is on my list of places I must visit sometime in my life.

Just out of curiosity, has anybody had a big win at any of the casinos and how do you go about getting that kind of sum (5 figures) back home?

The $20 trick worked for us at the Bellagio last week. Handed over $20 with my ID and asked for any complimentary or fountain view upgrades (we just had a standard room booked). She gave us a fountain view room at the front of the hotel - awesome room! However, this was at 3pm Sunday afternoon, at 9pm when my sister checked in, they had nothing available and the trick didn't work. Guess a lot depends on the time you check in and what they have available then. It was so much busier than I remember from 10 years ago though, Vegas is never quiet...
Interesting...did your sister get the $20 back?
YEs, she did. The clerk didn't take my $20 until she had secured a room and only then when I picked it up off the counter and offered it to her again - she was very appreciative.

Stayed at the MGM a couple of times in November 2011 & 2013,

before we knew about $20 trick in 2011, we had 3 grand queens booked, we ended up with 13/14th floor 2 rooms with a strip view opposite NY NY looking down towards Excaliber/Luxor/Mandalay & 1 facing the airport all on the same corridor, luckily I had one of the strip views,

2013, this time knowing about the upgrade, we had 2 grand queens booked, asked at check in for an upgrade without slipping any money with the Card, we were given an upgrade to Executive queens on the top floor (one below skylofts)both with strip view looking up towards Aria/Cosmo etc, at that point we gave him $100 tip between the 4 of us, that then got our resort fees waived for the week, effectively saving us around $600 between the 2 rooms.
My self and partner has stayed at the MGM twice and never have we been charged resort fee's, what was this for?

Copy & Paste from the MGM website,

Q. What is the resort fee?
A.
A daily resort fee of $28 (tax inclusive) will be applied to all reservations.
The resort fee includes:
In-room high speed internet & WiFi
Daily USA Today newspaper
Local and toll free numbered calls
Limited Business Services such as outgoing faxes, copies, notary, and boarding pass printing
Free access to the Cardio Room located on the 4th floor, in the 300 wing.
Open daily from 5am – 11pm.

We were charged it the 1st year, I think it also depends on who you book with as 1 of the rooms on our 1st trip was booked at a later date through a different company, his price included the resort fees in the booking price,

We went to the palazzo a couple of years ago, you'll love it. I did the 'dollar sandwich' at check-in and it was worth it. We were there 2 weeks, so decided $50 would be better.

We got a fridge for the duration (usually $25 a day) a room upgrade facing treasure island and some free bets.

Highlight of my trip were.

Helicopter tour
Gun Store
Grand Canyon
Batman slots!

very easily, if you hit a big win (eg jackpot out a machine) there will be some paper work to fill in at the casino, they give you a form saying that you won $xxx and it basically makes it tax exempt (because of a UK tax treaty). then when you land back in the UK you just have to declare that you have more than $10k on your person. you have proof of where you won it (eg the receipt from the casino) so that should be you on your way.

slightly different if you dont win it in 1 jackpot/ big win, eg just playing high stakes blackjack/ roullete/ craps/ poker. you probably wouldnt have a receipt of your winnings, then you would have to have proof that you had that sort of cash to start with, if question they could get proof from players cards, phoning casinos where you were playing etc etc...... this is to protect against money laundering etc....

I would strongly suggest you dont split up the cash between you and your partner/ others in the group to avoid the >$10k limit. this is a quick way to getting cash confiscated if caught, if you won the cash legitimately and have proof, you have nothing to hide. just be honest.

Sounds as though Kia has come a long way!

We'll be rumbling down the strip in a lairy V8 in a few hours. Have booked an SS convertible but I'm hoping we can bag a C7 Vette at the desk. Fingers crossed!

Just looked up the k900 there - very 5 series like inside. Similar in fact to my M135i.

We landed in Vegas yesterday afternoon and left for our mini road trip (Vegas to Grand Canyon to Monument Valley to Zion Park and then back to Vegas).

Once we're back in Vegas we'll be seeing some shows, meeting my brother and spending time in bars and one restaurants.

Managed to get the C7 Stingray (4 miles on the clock) and it is awesome. Brutal performance, really well specced and a massive head turner. Can't wait to get back in it to be honest.

Got back from Vegas this morning

What a strange place. Apparently the Cosmopolitan is the place to go for pool parties at the moment and the helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon is a must.

Glad I went to Vegas but even more glad someone else was paying.
It certainly isn't a place I'd pay to visit, but I can see the appeal to some

I've never been my self but I would love to, however a lad I used to work with went a few months ago and 3 of them were playing on the 1 cent slots (Flamingo? I think) and walked away with this.

The hotel upgraded them in every way they could, i'm surprised they didnt come back in a box because if i'd won that amount i'm pretty sure I would!

Back from death valley most probably one of the most ruggedly beautiful places there is. Went to Titus canyon and that is a must do stunning views and some simple offroading about 28 miles and took about 4 hours with a ghost town stop off and lots of pictures. Dont do it in your hire car though !

Sounds great! Not long off the phone to BA enquiring about the price of an upgrade to World Traveller +...£464 for the two of us one way...there's no way we would spend that on seats so we ended up paying £112 return for aisle seats in cattle class.

How was that for driving? We're due to go that way on a Harley in July and yeah, I know it's gonna be 'kin 'ot.
I have read blogs and the like where people suggest calling in the RV park at Shoshone to see if there's anyone heading North through the Valley and teaming up with them. Or was there sufficient traffic that if there are any dramas a lift out of there won't be too difficult?
