How about spending the 9 or 12 or whatever billion that is being thrown at the Olympics on transport? Shame we pissed up however many hundreds of billions on wars. There's plenty of dosh really, the govt has its priorities wrong!
This is why I would love to cap government spending at a set, low proportion of GDP. I guess at about 10%. It would force them to focus on only those things that are important, and remove the option of continually increasing taxes or borrowing to pay for things we don't need.AJS- said:
You've missed a third option: Slavery.
If railways were built and maintained by slaves, and stations and trains were staffed by unpaid workers the cost savings would be enourmous. Make people on benefits work like this and keep them interested with the chance of becoming a paid slave driver if they do well, then you could cut rail fares.
It' s a good idea but I'd rather have the attractive ones as sex slaves and eat the unattractive ones.If railways were built and maintained by slaves, and stations and trains were staffed by unpaid workers the cost savings would be enourmous. When I come to power, I will tarmac over most of the railways and turn them into express roads with no speed limit and limited access to reduce traffic flow. Until then it's taxes or death trains. In which case I would go for death trains.
Wehen you're deposed and I take power, I will turn all your express roads and all the other roads into railways, so everyone will be able to travel wherever and whenever they want by steam trains operated by sex slaves.I just don't understand train fares! I used to get the train from Ilkley to Leeds which is about 30mins or just under 20 miles for £3.10 which is a bargain.
To do a similar length journey at the same time with SouthWest Trains waterloo - kingston cost a whole load more..
This most likely has something to do with the operator I assume..

I do a great long post about the benefits of trains versus other mehtods of transport and the only bit anyone picks up on is sex slaves.
My genius is wasted here.

Speaking as an ex resident for far too short a time of that place it's because people in Ilkley look at Leeds, shudder, and then carry on avoiding Beelzebub. Thus there is no demand. Ditto Bradford.Gassing Station | Holidays & Travel | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
