Post 1pm over here with this weather the lower slopes of Blackcomb and Whistler are just mush, awful stuff. My Olins are horrible in and yes it’s like powder - at which I’m crap! The newer wider stuff floats across it, almost like a waterski will try and do.
I like these conditions with my 30yo Dynastars for the super-carving flex I’m able to generate, along with the forgiving slushy surface on bumps. But yes, modern skis are 1000% more capable. Whoozit said:

???? I was referring to the idea that there was a mountain hut at 2300m in Scotland....... I’ve had lunch in the Horstman’s hut in whistler so I know it exists alfa phil said:

As my first ski trip gets nearer, i'm a little worried, with all these high temperatures people talk of, that there will be any snow left by the 6 April? Anyone have any thoughts?
Off to Passo del Tonale...
We'll make the most of it whatever, but snow would be nice
have you been yet dirty boy.Off to Passo del Tonale...

No, we go friday, bit concerned, there was huge amounts of snow forecast, now it's gone still, it's our first time skiing, so we won't really know any different I guess?

If you’ve never skied before you will likely spend 2 days maybe 3 just on the nursary slope thereafter 1 or 2 blues for the rest of the week. What runs were you doing? I've studied the map extensively!

You’re there now! Blistering sunshine so presume your at the very top (Zugspitze) and very early to avoid the post-lunch slush?
We do Garmisch every year (was there in early February) due to the ease of getting there, great skiing and fantastic food and beer. Great atmosphere all round. Enjoy!
blistering sunshine was exactly what we got!! had an amazing weekend, not exactly spectacular snow conditions but didn’t expect that this late and in the blazing sunshine. We do Garmisch every year (was there in early February) due to the ease of getting there, great skiing and fantastic food and beer. Great atmosphere all round. Enjoy!
we hit zugspitize on friday, was a lovely compact place to ski. pretty good snow all day, the snow held until prob 2-3ish and had a great first day of my season!
saturday we drove to solden to get a bit of height and bigger area. also my friends wanted to check it out as they were considering a proper holiday there. really liked the place. snow was good again, it held up until late in the day again. still managed to ski down to the bottom at the end up the day. i loved the cruisey blue that goes down the valley following the side of the road kinda from the bottom of the slalom stadium (i think).
sunday we hit garmisch classic. snow didn’t really last long, was super hot and it got slushy early on. still had a few good runs, a couple of beers in the sun and an early finish to head back to munich for our late flight home. it was the last day on the season, the car said it was 20deg at the bottom and i believe it.
my face is kind pink despite factor 50, but i loved garmisch as a short trip destination. so many small hills close by for a day skiing. and great for flying in/out of munich. can get the train from munich airport to garmisch with minimum fuss!
Very true Cold!
I should have packed more t-shirts and shorts rather than trousers and shirts!
Rumour has it end of the sunny weather now and 30-40cm of snow hitting from tomorrow on the upper slopes, or rain down in the village.
Anyway, our time is done, home tomorrow. Been an awesome awesome time in Vanc and then Whistler. We will absolutely return.
Hold on - one of you dads with the teenage daughters aren’t staying up top in the Fairmont are you?!

hi guys i have a question
if you were to buy a sml place in a ski resort no more than 1.5 hrs away from geneva where would it be and why ?
budget is lowish 200k-400k chf or eur
im single but want a pad that offers nice village and good skiing
i prefer the swiss in general so was thinking of Champéry.....but like all things swiss you get less for your money
any input greatly appreciated

Think you might not be single in the future and you might have kids so suddenly that lovely small pad becomes not appropriate if you were to buy a sml place in a ski resort no more than 1.5 hrs away from geneva where would it be and why ?

La Cluzzaz or Samoens are both nice year round proper villages, rather than a resort like Les Gets or Morzine which are pretty much deserted outside the winter/ summer season and both are around an hour from Geneva. There’s plenty of new build stuff going up in Samoens which would fit your budget. if you were to buy a sml place in a ski resort no more than 1.5 hrs away from geneva where would it be and why ?

Just got back from Les 3V. Conditions were... not great. Plenty of snow but high temperatures, concrete slopes in the morning and porridge in the afternoon, best skiing between 12-3. VT has the most consistent conditions by far, don't even bother with Meribel.
Had an interesting trip home utilising French public transport and the ferry. It takes a while but perfectly doable, cost me £130 to get from the Alps to Dover. I wouldn't recommend it...
