Krvavec, Slovenia. Purported to be the closest ski slope to London in terms of travel time, you look down on the local runaway (Ljubljana) from the top of the gondola. It's about a 10 minute drive from the airport.

I'll be there in February, it's a regular destination for me.
Sounds like a great weekend option. What's the skiing like? Where do you stay?
There's a village at the bottom of the gondola with some hotels/spas etc. It's called Cerklje na Gorenjskom. Spit that one out. There's one hotel (imaginatively named Hotel Krvavec) and a couple of B&Bs on the mountain itself for ski in/ski out. Also a boot/ski hire place at the top of the gondola. Or you can stay in the city of Ljubljana which isn't far away if you want more nightlife. There are a couple of other spa towns within 20 minutes or so drive.

The snow's pretty reliable from December to March. It's a small resort but would be very entertaining for a weekend. Perfect for that.

Love it.

Ooo, look, snow's pelting down as we speak! Lovely.

What is the transfer time to Avoriaz like ? Also what is that resort like?
About an hour and a half. It's ski in/out. No major nightlife.
Yep, all of Les Gets/Morzine/Avoriaz are about 60-90min transfers from GVA. Loads of transfer operators too so good prices (~£70pp return on a max 45min airport wait shared transfer).

In broad terms:
Les Gets -> Best for families looking for a real village and lower prices. Great access to Morzine/Les Gets ski area but getting to rest of PdS area a bit of a pain.
Morzine -> Best for adults looking for food and drink in the evenings. Prices are good, as is the access to whole PdS area.
Avoriaz -> Best for ski in/ski out and families - but you pay a lot more to get less sq foot vs. Morzine/Les Gets. Great access to the whole PdS area, but don't expect much life in town after the sun goes down.

Avoriaz's nightlife has been getting better in recent years, not least with the opening of a Folie Deuce

If you go to the PdS you can at least throw all your workmates at the Swiss Wall rofl

yeah, but it seems to kickstart the evening in the ways that didn't happen before. The town definitely seems busier at night these days

That opened in the 1960’s didn’t it?

Got dates sorted for a works do 23-27-1/20.

Now narrowing down where.

I’m suggesting
Ischgl
Val Thornes
Les Gets
St Anton.

Group of min 6
Talent - all can ski, though some are needing to progress from green runs where as others are from there up to I believe able to do Reds.
Socialising will be important too
Cost/budget well for some it will be the only ski trip of the year so can afford to go a bit more (my view is no need for crazy budget instead good resort amazing views great snow and skiing lots of fun and banter).

Where should we go ? Would love ski in ski out / idyllic views but might not be available.
One other to consider is Sauze D'Oulx in Italy, connected to Sestriere and Montegenevre if you've got the legs (has been an Olympics venue). Really good mix of skiing and Sauze is a great village. Accommodation can straddle the weekend (unlike when we've tried to get Austria). We're back for our third trip this January (4 lads). We fly to Milan as the others live in Docklands/Essex so London City is our preferred airport, that's about 2.5 hours but an easy drive. Turin is closer by at least an hour but flight frequencies are lower (and nowt from City). Italy is way cheaper for food/drink in resort than France.

La Plagne is a bunch of different villages - connected by pistes, but they are quite separate at night.

NY is busy pretty much everywhere as far as resorts being fully booked and queues at lifts.

The only time I was there for NY was in Belle Plagne, but we didn't leave the hotel in the evening so can't help much.

Cheers, we have 3 kids, so the queues and bottlenecks are strictly piste related! hehe

Hiya

Any hints for decent operators for a transfer between GVA and La Clusaz?

Much appreciated

Arpette - or anything out of Bellecote seems to be the main resort bottleneck IMHO

A day out in Les Arcs can be fun if you can get over to the Vanoise Express early enough to make it worthwhile.

I skied Montegenevre years a go. Nice resort, not very challenging. I’d happily go back to the Milky Way.

3 feeder lifts going up and out.
Super Morzine
Pleney
Prodains Express

All three get busy at peak times, but are modern fast transport. If there's a queue go and have a hot-choc and come back in 15.
Half term is a real pinch point, so avoid.
Similarly Saturday

There are plenty of work arounds, you can drive to the Ardent lift, park for free and skip all the resort-bound people. This also works for the Prodains lift.

There are plans for a direct, single lift connection from Morzine village to Avoriaz, but it would be some lift! They made a video of it, but I think it's a way off.

They compulsory purchased one of our chalets for the new lift, about 3 years ago!
