Back from 2 weeks in Austria and Italy
First week in huts around Silvretta to get acclimatised for more challenging second week. Poor weather and vis with high winds. Some tricky navigation and skinning plus warming wind causing softening of fresh snow at times. Windslab accumulating in places. Altogether a tricky week but managed to get exposure to altitude and improve fitness with 800-1000m skinning each day at between 2200 and 3000m.
Were planning a second week in Stubai but reports and intel suggested Northern Italy would be a better call and this proved to be right. Amazing conditions with clear skies and plentiful powder in north facing aspects. Moved about to pick off the most attactive lines in each of three valleys radiating to the East from Bruneck. Broke journey back by returning to Stubai for a big day off the top of the lift system. The pisted areas were in really good nick - almost like January at the beginning of April.

Back at Heavenly/Lake Tahoe for the annual end-of-season trip. But with no snow in Scotland worth skiing on and precious little in Europe my season up until now was just a trip to Vail…which in fairness was fabulous.
It’s usually spring skiing at this time of year with a few bare patches and vegetation showing through, but there’s been a massive amount of snow here this year.
These signs are usually ‘ski under’ with around 4 feet to spare! But although there’s an impressive depth it’s been pretty warm in the afternoons so it’s been through a few freeze and thaw cycles. Still, decent enough skiing, but no fresh tracks.

We have a week and a bit left of the season on the highest station, after the last major part (the shady side of the valley) closed on Sunday. After a very dry Jan-Feb-Mar we've probably had more snow in April than the rest of the season combined, even down in the valley (though that melts when the sun hits it). I suspect given all the fresh snow the ski touring might have another few weeks left.
The Alpina has its tyres changed on Monday, and as would be expected Monday's forecast is snow.

I do love a summer ski post!
Easter in Avoriaz as usual, but also a trip to chatel (again usual boys' trip).
But the big fun is a work trip doing cat and heli in BC. Now that is a great invite, and I very obviously said yes! I have to make it up to Lady F though...

Silverstar early bird passes bought, now looking at the flight conundrum. On the plus side, more options this year, prices are about where I’d expect them too.

Has anyone been to Scotland before?
I assume you mean for skiing?I’ve skied Cairngorm, Glenshee and The Lecht.
It can be brilliant or terrible. Depending on tge weather. There’s no real aprês other than at Aviemore. Glenshee is the largest area and I’ve had some wonderful days there. Unfortunately they all suffer from the Scottish winter if you take two weeks you could easily have 14 days skiing, 3 days or none.

when do the ski sales usually start, and which sites are best?
....
I think any company who is holding skis from previous years will already have them on sale.....
As to potentially good deals, I am looking to get a new pair for one of my children, and Sport Conrad looked good to me. They are in Europe, so the price you will pay is ex VAT and then you pay the tax when they arrive into the UK. But they had competitive pricing as far as I could tell.

Also Glide and Slide have a couple of pairs of very cheap Kaestle skis (they no longer sell Kaestle so this is the last bit of stock they still have left). The "LX" models they have left are a bit softer than the "MX" model, but might be of interest as it is a lot of ski for the money.
