You think easyJet are going to go bust? Are you posting drunk again at 08:30 in the morning.
Are you drunk at 8am in the morning again to think the airline industry is all good and no players are going to go bust in the next 12 months.

Put down the brandy El Salvador.

I can't confirm for all airlines, but with Easyjet, the voucher is valid for a year, but you can fly later than that as long as you make the booking within the year.

Easyjet email said:
Your Flight Voucher can be used against the cost of a new booking. It can also be used to add extras such as hold luggage and allocated seating on an existing booking. Although your voucher expires in 12 months, you may purchase flights beyond this date subject to availability.
As for the free changes - I'd expect that to go as soon as they are close to full flying again - a free change is good for them when they are cancelling anyway.....
Thanks for that info, makes sense. Now we’ve just got to get through to them!

Due to travel to Canada and Alaska on Saturday 13th June with Barrhead, it's obviously not happening; no travel documents have arrived, nor any other communication from them, their phone lines are unmanned, they don't respond to emails. I'm sure that we'll get the money back at some point, but in the meantime, I am livid.
Why are you livid?

Did you expect to travel?
I think he expected some response from the travel agent which isn’t unreasonable. I’d also be livid.
An indication that 50% of people are of below average intelligence.
Or not. Livid is perhaps an overreaction?

By the way, 50% are below median intelligence which is not necessarily the same as average.

Not at all; livid is a perfectly reasonable reaction to an organisation sitting on £9,000 + of my wife’s money which fails to keep us informed or respond to phone calls and emails.

I'd be livid too. Are you able to make a chargeback via your credit card?

Looks like another case of a firm taking advantage of the virus. This just isn’t reasonable:-

Thanks for the moral support JQ & Bad Company; I am certain that the wife will get her money back via ABTA, chargeback or holiday insurance; it’s the cynical lack of communication which is most annoying.
This is the first time that we have used a travel agency, and the last.

I claimed back from my credit card American Express, all done online and very easy. The money was returned to my card within 24 hours. You’ll need confirmation of the cancellation though which it looks like you don’t yet have.

All a big PIA though.

You only have 120 days to make the charge back. How did you pay?
Look I'm not unsympathetic, but livid implies it affects your every waking hour. I'd be annoyed by the wall of silence too, but there's always another way. Start the chargeback process.

That statement from Barrhead is shocking. Minimum of 28 days to reply to any query? I think I’d be going down the chargeback route as well.

I don’t think they will be seeing much repeat business after all this has cleared up.

The definition of livid is extremely angry, which I am, but only at Barrhead's lack of communication and action. smile

We are out of time on chargeback as the holiday was paid for in lumps between November and January; it seems that Barrhead's payment terms are designed to prevent such action, although there is always the section 75 method.
I have just spoken to a very helpful young lady at ABTA who said that Barrhead must refund us, suggested that we register a formal complaint with them, and that they will follow it up for us. I am now determined not to claim on our holiday insurance if at all possible, as that would appear to leave Barrhead with a £9K+ profit, having provided nothing.

What they will be seeing is crap reviews, anywhere and everywhere that I can leave them

No way should you be claiming on your insurance. Okay you can, but it's not your fault. Plus a claim will go against you next time you want holiday insurance won't it?

Rebooking later in the summer is an additional £1100.

Rebooking for the same time next year is an additional £1000...

Even with the 20% credit that means we'd have to pay £500ish on top. Looks like it's a tent in the garden this year!

What about getting the money back from Tui and booking something else?

That's Turkey on the 2nd July off then, in some ways I'm quite glad as I don't think the holiday experience will be as enjoyable with all the social distancing rules and procedures an all inclusive hotel will have to implement to allow travel at the moment.
Question is whether to rebook the same hotel for next year, at a slight increase even with the 20% or cash it in and shop again in the new year. scratchchin

Has anyone booked for 2021 yet?

I have one trip booked October 20. Thus far, both airline (American) and Tour operator are saying "Still going ahead" Obviously this is dependent on the destination (USA) allowing international travellers in without a mandatory 14 day quarantine on arrival.

Trump for all his sins is a business man, so cant see him introducing a blanket policy that might negatively affect the tourism economy there. But if he's forced into it, could be awkward.

Have an cursory idea for a trip in March 2021 (Japan) but haven't booked yet (Tour operator waiting for confirmation from venue currently)

Would anyone here chance it? Pay the deposits only, and then wait and see what happens?

Phil.

Looks like Spain is opening it’s borders to the whole of the EU from next Sunday 21st! A u-turn on what was said last week.

All we need now is the UK government to u-turn on their 14 day return quarantine ruling which no doubt will happen before the end of June, as will a reduction in social distancing from 2m to 1m as I expect to kick start the service economy.

Good news for Shnozz and his 4th July ferry booking smile
