Well I can't back down as she's paid the deposit and got the little girl all excited about it. I can afford it, as long as the business keeps growing as it is, and will undoubtedly enjoy it.

I will lose some orders but the online ones I can manage remotely an hour or two in the evening. I've got a year to work out how not to lose too many telephone orders.

It's a ridiculously expensive holiday but I'll treat it as the experience of a lifetime and enjoy it as much as I can without worrying about the business too much.
Do you have a friend you can trust to look after the company for a couple of weeks? Bung him a grand for his trouble...

Better still, divert all email enquiries to a thread on this forum and we'll all chip in and respond to them in the most professional way wink

I know a chap who specialises in standing in for company owners and covering stuff when they are madly busy, out of the country etc etc. Sure he could help or point you towards someone similar - as long as it doesn't clash with his second job marshaling at F1 races wink

There's no F1 races in December so I'll look again at this thread nearer the time smile though I do have a mate in mind as suggested by somebody above. He's a good bloke who has a nice second hand car business which would go a little quiet in December presumably. He also has a considerable gift of the gab smile

Enjoy the trip, my Parents took my Sister and I on some amazing holidays during our teens, a Safari to Kenya and Tanzania staying in the Ngorongoro crater and a trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos, amazing places to visit and see, IIRC our parents gave us the choice of disney or a safari.

You will have no mobile signal out on safari - pretty much guarantee it.

You can however hire a sat phone if being out of contact worries you... wouldn't use one for data though (just too slow/expensive). I would have done but was already out of weight allowance and decided that camera was more important than phone (for once).

As for the cost, all of these things are relative. If you have the cash then I am sure you will enjoy it. Try not to consider loss of earnings though... no good will come of such thinking.

It always amuses me when self employed people say how much it will "cost them" to spend time with their family on holiday.

If you can afford it but still don't want to spend £xx on a holiday with them should you be with them at all? Is your job that important to you? Will your business fall apart if you go on holiday for 2 weeks?
