Fair enough :-) I thought they were supposed to be nice, I'm not talking resorts.
Please stop. I'm not 'talking resorts' either. I'm talking about the naivety of UK tourists who go because of the quaint old shabby architecture and the '50s Yank tanks without the slightest thought of why it's like that. To my mind there's nothing quaint about supporting a communist dictatorship which keeps the vast majority of its people in abject poverty.

Muscat, Oman. Do it.
Really?

I spend quite a bit of time there, but rarely have much 'me' time.

Anywhere you recommend to kill an hour or two?

I did enjoy driving up the mountain at Niabat Jabal Akhdar, near Nizwa. But certainly haven't seen anything in the country where I would choose to spend my own money to visit.

Well I kew Greece is the poor relation in the EU at the moment but I didn't think it was a dictatorship with 50's Yank tanks and abject poverty....

Sorry I wasn't talking resorts either in Cuba I was asking about Greek islands thread was out of sync.

You say you would never visit Cuba, I presume you have not done so in the past? It's just that from people who have visited accounts don't hold true. People not in abject poverty etc but a limitation on imports so no new consumer goods. Not people going hungry.

Besides, maybe it should be don't visit the USA as they could be said to be responsible for the way Cuba is.

I'm out, this is the wrong forum for this. Apols for the out of sync misunderstanding.

From what you write, it sounds like you need to be entertained. Oman isn't that kind of place really. It is almost the opposite to Dubai (although it does have its own shopping centres now). Oman is about the outside, not the inside. Being in Arabia it isn't green (unless you go to Salalah in the monsoon/khareef season). For a few hours near the capital I'd suggest visiting the Oman Dive centre (for some diving), visit any number of museums, hand out on the beach (at one of the hotels if you need to be looked after), drive to see Nakhal Fort or Jabrin Fort - both pretty cool places. You'll need a bit more time to hit one of the many off road wadi routes, usually a day-trip. You could drive down the coast towards Sur.
