Update for you all.

Arrived Monday evening, collected the car and got home. Car in question;

Strange thing first, was I rented the car through SiXT...but it arrived stickered up from "TopCar Tenerife", yet the contract was SiXT hehe

We are staying at an AirBnB in Poris De Abona. We originally were booked to stay in the Gran Tacande Wellness Resort in Costa Adeje, however I found out how much it was costing OH (this trip is her birthday treat to me) and nearly fell over when I heard 2.5k! We changed to an AirBnB and got a huge house, with pool, for just 300 euro! Bargain.

Food, alcohol, petrol, pretty much everything is so cheap here. We wanted to find somewhere quick and easy our first night, so went to a curry house. We ended up paying 36 euro for a 3 course meal, with drinks etc.

Yesterday we took the motorway all the way around the top half of the island and went to Loro Park Zoo, which was incredible, then set the GPS to avoid motorways on the way home and came over the Teide, super twisty and tight roads, and nearly vertical in parts! Poor MX-5 was working very hard hehe Standard of driving here is absolutely abysmal, it seems the locals take lane discipline and roundabouts as a mere suggestion, nearly swiping us off the road yesterday as I was coming up the mountain. He cuts the corner, nearly swipes my front bumper off then beeps and gestures at ME as if it was my fault! Hilarious hehe also watched a truck enter a roundabout and proceed to do multiple laps in the outside lane, as people on the inside lane made a big for freedom and cut Infront of him to make their exit.

Overall, we are having a fantastic time. Off to Siam Water park now!

Enjoy!

It gets a bad rep, but I like tenerife, although haven't been for a while now (kids and school holidays costs a fortune).

We like Loro Parque too, and its nice to see a bit of the north - last time we had a 1.4 litre polo from Avis, that was interesting with four adults up the motorway hills!

I've heard a few people say they didn't enjoy it, but so far me and SWMBO are loving it. In fairness we are both easily pleased hehe but we've enjoyed driving around, roof down, taking in the scenery. Can only imagine what the Polo was like, Google Maps brought us down the tightest steepest alleyways and streets, and I had to go down to 1st gear most the time. Poor MX-5 was working it's butt off!

Is autoreisen still the best company to use?

How easy is it to get an upgrade from them?
Any joy offering the desk clerk a few euros to bump you up to a bigger car?

I've used them several times, most recently a couple of months ago, never any issues.

No idea on the upgrade question. Last time I used them I had to ask for a downgrade - I'd booked a Seat Ibiza and they wanted to give me a Grand Espace. Really didn't fancy driving a small minibus for a week biggrin

We always use autoreisen in Canaries and have never had an issue.
