A timely thread so I'll keep an eye on it. I'm flying into Frankfurt in September and also looking for advice on renting a car and heading to the ring for a few days. I drove over from ire a few times in the past but flying in this time. Who's best to rent a car from Frankfurt airport? I know I'm probably not allowed to take that on the track so I'll look into ring freaks or the likes.. sorry to hijack

I took my son to the Nurburgring a few weeks ago. We did a BMW M5 ring taxi which was brilliant. I had always wanted to drive the circuit myself, but after going around in the Ring taxi, that desire has been firmly quashed. The number of times we were HARD on the brakes because of a slow moving driver on the racing line over a blind bend/crest was frightening.

Motorworld at Cologne is free and worth a visit.

Enjoy!

Sixt offer better cars, from what my German based work collegues tell me.

A Ring taxi lap is definitely recommended, especially if you're wary of taking your own car out. The M cars are fast and smooth, but on our last trip we tried the Hyundai N taxis. Properly exciting stuff, with pro drivers wringing absolutely everything out of i30Ns, and cheaper too. Worth trying to book the first ride in the session to avoid getting caught up in traffic and mishaps.

As said above, Cochem is lovely, and some great roads there and back. Worth finding the energy for the climb up to the castle too.

Nurburg castle is worth the ascent as well, with great views over the surrounding area, and only a few Euros.

Back there in early July, and can't wait.
