I take it just the plastic part will be okay?
No, the hire car places want to see that you've not got 11 points on your licence.

It has indeed stopped snowing here and it seems to be melting, so you have a fighting chance tomorrow morning. Luton doesn't cope well with snow, so you may face delays. According to this site http://skylinkweather.com/metar/metarmapregionsfor... as well as others, we're due a lot of snow late afternoon/early evening tomorrow. It may not be so much can you get out, as can you get back.

If its EasyJet, take what they say with a pinch of salt. I ended up waiting 7 hrs to fly out to Geneva on Thursday morning after being told the runways will be open in 30 mins, every 30 mins, for 4 hours. The flight back was logged as being on, when I knew for a fact that the inbound flight had been cancelled. Flew back to LHR instead, which despite last Mondays' debacle, does cope better with snow.

A pretty good guide is your trip to Luton airport itself. If it's so slippery that airport way (on an incline) gets blocked by cars, forget flying for the next several hours.

I'd seriously consider getting the train for a journey like that.

Doesn't take too long from somewhere like MK.
MK to edinburgh?

I've still a full days work to do before I fly and have a meeting at 8am on Tuesday
Yes, and?

It's 4 hours 42 mins from MK Central to Edinburgh Waverly (central).

How long does it take to do it by plane? - door to door?

I reckon - check-in 1 hour before, 1 hour flight, at least an hour from landing to getting into the city.

So you're up to a minimum of 3 hours, if you're lucky, and a load of messing around.

The train is pretty relaxing, with just a single change, and a sleeper option, too.

I hate short-haul domestic flying - just seems a st load of hassle for very little gain.

well if it all goes to plan 2 hours of my day means a lot to me besides having to travel to MK and the fact that the rail ticket is twice the price of the air fare

I had a nightmare journey from Geneva to Luton on Saturday. The most accurate information I was given - from the pilot's mouth - was that the bone idle groundstaff at Luton failed to clear the taxi ways and plane parks of ice and there was a dispute between the refuelling staff who said it was too icy and slippery to refuel the planes safely. H&S then stuck their oar in and obviously didn't come up with a solution to get the ice cleared. This resulted in the airport only allowing 3 planes an hour to land & refuel, which then caused chaos with a backlog of delayed flights coming into Luton.

Our Geneva flight ended up filling its fuel tanks enough so that it could fly back to Geneva on the return journey, without having to refuel again at Luton. I'd suggest you check your plane is big enough to run both ways on a tank before attempt to get to the airport.

The best solution is to drive to your destination & not bother with the plane. That's what I'll be doing next year when I go skiing because its happened twice to me now with easyjet & I'm fed up with the poor service
