Agreed.

Delta is fine.

Atlanta is fine.

Haven't tried the Manchester route but Delta to Atlanta is a very cost-effective way into USA.

i disagree, Delta sucks as indeed does Atlanta airport,

Delta because of the old aircraft they use (no personal tv in the seat ala BA and Virgin), rubbish movies, uncomfortable seats and poor cabin crew. Also on the way back from Atlanta to Manchester we were on a night flight and it was bloody freezing on the plane!! I was glad i had a big jacket with me.

And....Atlanta because of the redneck border control officers/immigration control!! I was treated with disrespect and questioned very agressively from the off, i swear he was trying to get a reaction out of me (both what he said and the way he said it). I kept my cool (as you do in these situations....also cos i didnt want to get a cap or two in my ass or worse the dreaded internal inspection!!) yet despite my best efforts, i still got taken to the "other room" and detained for 45 mins!!! they checked my documents again then let me go, and i nearly missed my connecting flight to South Carolina. All in all not a nice welcome to the Good ol' USA... .(Though Charleston was much much better and The Down town/old town bit had some amazing property/architecture).

To be honest I will try and avoid Atlanta in the future... not even Boston was that bad a few months after 9/11.

Sadly the prices rise (predictably) in July/August. So it's not worth leaving it till the last minute then??

Always booked a package holiday until now, we just need the flights this time as we're staying with relatives.

If its an Airbus then it'll be Northwest Airlines, they are owned by delta now
Ahh the via Detroit option.

Never ever ever ever ever again.

Was supposed to be LGW>Detroit>Atlanta

Was LGW>Detroit>Chicago>Memphis>Atlanta.

Luggage arrived, largely smashed, 3 days later.

Ace.
