Won't happen.

How would people move freely across land borders - such as the one that exists between the Irish Republic and Northernm Ireland - not to mention continental Europe where the borders don't really exist in any meaningful way, especially between EU countries.
They will just implement it for air travel or similar so they can make money that way.

A UK Border Agency spokesman defended the e-borders scheme. "It allows us to secure the UK's Borders by screening people as they travel in and out of the UK.'

It's a bit bloody late now chum. All the crap and filth is already in.

That, and a revenue collection tool. There will have to be charges of course per passenger to maintain it but i think if you owe GST, Tax, Fines etc you can forget about going overseas.
A lot of this bks that keeps coming out of the government makes me wonder just who is getting and how much they are getting in bungs and backhanders from the likes of EDS - a pound to a penny they or some other shower of st like Capita will be behind this crap.

How are they going to log the hordes off illegal immigrants already in this country? This new procedure will only affect law abiding citizens

Has this been implemented yet or is it still on the "to do" list? Surely something like this should be debated by Parliament and not just left up to Government...

I may have misread that article, but the way I read it the only thing that'll change for people who fly out of the country (on business or pleasure) is that the airline will log their passport and credit card details, then pass them onto the government.

The travel plans (when out of the country) was mentioned immediately after the part about boat owners etc leaving the country having to state their destination etc..which sort of makes sense, though its unlikely that anyone up to no good would tell the truth.

Did I misread something? I read about 2 screens full of text and got bored, so there may have been something I missed - but I didn't see anything to suggest that next time I go on holiday I'll have to notify the government about the excursions I choose to go on. Am I missing something?

You have to fill out a card when you leave New Zealand, saying where you're going, why and for how long. Struck me as very intrusive. Apparently it's just for statistics. No doubt Britain's system will be 10 times as intrusive and give them an excuse for a whole lot more fixed penalties.

If they do introduce this nasty scheme, then please everyone tell them that you're leaving for good because you don't like totalitarian regimes.

No you don't, you just have to write how long you have been in NZ and what port you will disembark from the flight - does depend on whether you are a resident though.

So the airlines will log passport and Credit Card details and pass on to the govt.So any fine can be debited anytime the trustworthy govt wishes, and the info can be hacked by all the slime on the net.A well thoughtout govt scam as usual.

yes

Like all projects which mix the eejits in government with IT, any projected costs will at least double - and we'll be paying for them to spy on us.

So the details will probably be stored in at least two places, probably triplicate, with the booking agency, the airline and Government.

What with UK.gov being such leaders in data security we'll have nothing to worry about...

Criminals with access to that data will have everything they could possibly want. Passport, DOB, address, credit card details. They wont steel your ID, they'll become you!

It's a snip at £1.5bn though. Do we even have that in the coffers?

Can someone explain how this will stop terrorists? "We'll not travel to London Osama, they'll fine us if we lie about our intentions"!

Have a word with your chums in the CIA Mr B. A. Spokesman. They reckon all the terrorists are already here living among us in the indigenous population.

Now, can I go on my day trip to Boulogne please?

EDIT: "UK Border Agency". Well that's a joke name for a start. A border is a demarcation on land between two countries. The UK is a fricking island!

This is disgusting. Yet more of our civil liberties being eroded. fking awesome. Soon we will need to fill in a form if we need to go out of our COUNTY. Utter utter bks.
The next general election can not come soon enough. Although I wouldn't put it past this government to postpone it AGAIN and thus cling onto their power so they can fk this county up a bit more before they leave. Utter utter tts.
