ETA: And contrary to what many people as suggesting don't try to micro-manage the weekend. So long as you can all get into the pub/club/stripjoint you're aiming for let people sort themselves out. You're organising a group of adults after all. If it looks like you're going to need 4 taxis halfway through the evening organise a minibus or make less complicated plans IMO.
That was kind of my point. Usually the planning gets as far as 'get twenty blokes pissed in the nearest club' - and ends up with wandering the streets at 5am trying to find your hotel. Thinking far enough ahead to get from the club to the bar in one easy move keeps everyone relaxed. If you want people to enjoy the weekend, they shouldn't have to feel that they're having to provide the organisation / entertainment. That's the job of the best man.

I would say dont try to hard,

The best one i've been on, No outfits/Tshirts. No forced shenanigans, Was probably the best weekend break ive ever been on.
Totally agree. My own stag do involved myself and my closest friends booking a private room in a restaurant for drinks and dinner. Was a wonderful evening, nothing complex, nothing over the top.

Thats what the Groom asked for actually!

All great advice - many thanks to all of you, its given me plenty to think about.

He's not a 'coke & hookers' kind of guy... and to be honest, he's so clumsy I wouldnt trust him chained to a Midget (thats a new one on me hehe )

I know what I wanted for my stag night but circumstances changed so it never happened - moved to Dubai and would have been a bit of a problem.

All I wanted was a weekend at Gleneagles with 5-6 of my best mates, bit of shooting, golf etc... great meals and some fine wines. Entirely civilsed - I'm nearly 40 FFS, not 21.

I'm hoping to be whisked off to York for a weekend. Day at the races with the team getting suited and booted, booze, cigars etc.

Then a nice dinner in town, followed by the obligatory Micklegate Run.

Then Sunday, recover with some paintballing!

Best one I heard was the guys had booked a kissagram for the stag early in the evening at a bar. When she finished and was saying goodbye to him she whispered in his ear "careful, they have arranged a trannygram for you later"! He spent the rest of the night on danger-watch and ran a mile if any woman tried to talk to him! hehe

The best one I've ever attended took some organising and required the right bunch of "up for it" mates.

The best man arranged to hire a stately home and then the whole weekend had a back story - we all had to be in costume, there were fines to be paid if we weren't.

We did the usual clay shooting, quadding, golf and fine meals.

On the Saturday night we went out in Bristol, in full costume to hit a decent meal and some bars - you'd be amazed how easy it is to pull in a sherlock holmes costume!

Good suggestion. YOu could sing drinking songs. That sounds sweet.
Yes- drinking songs.
As long as your mate is getting married at the ripe old age of 14 of course.

Don't make up some t-shirts, it's crass and tacky.

Don't ask the Stag to do something you wouldn't actually do yourself.

Don't wind him up too much, it's easy to forget this is his last few days of freedom, not yours or anyone else's. Getting him fked off will not create a memorable time.

Do.. give him a couple of 'Jokers' (i.e. he can shift something he has to do onto someone of his choosing).

Do... if you are going away for a couple of night, choose one night to give him a proper send-off, not a whole weekend of dares etc, etc... it's enough to test the patience of a saint.

Do... leave plenty to chance, have one thing organised but the best things that happen on Stag do's do tend to be the unplanned things.
i wish the lads organsising my stag do could read this post, I'm bricking it.

Last two Stags i've been on were Magaluf and Benidorm. None of us were clubbers or particularly into getting laid, but we still thoroughly enjoyed it, bit of beach footy etc...

The stag had to wear a Batman Outfit, His Cubs outfit from when he was a kid, and a Borat thong on three different nights.

Sitting in a relatively family orientated Chinese restaurant with Batman was hilarious, nothing malicious, but there was Batman eating his noodles, and every now and again you'd look up and he'd be looking at you....beady little eyes through the mask.....

Then there was the time in Benidorm where we were looking for somewhere to have lunch, ended up in some dodgy pub with a scouser opening up 10 microwaves in the kitchen to cook our food with traces of cocaine on the plates yikes

Oddly the best one I went on was "t-shirts" the first night, and all dressed as the village people the second night.

"forced" forefeits etc, stupid games the lot.

Despite utterly horrific food poisoning it was still great!

I should add we were all quite a few years younger than we are now!

If I'm ever dim enough to tie the knot I'll be off to Las Vega with half a dozen select chums for a long weekend, some chilled out stuff, some silly drinking, some fancy dress and some machine gun shooting in the desert should do the trick,

I know, future Mrs craigw has already warned them that wedding invited will be revoked if I lose hair etc, didnt seem to deter them at all. I have now been informed that there is a powerboat involved.

The most important thing is to talk to the groom and find out what he wants.

If he's into getting ratted and clubbing, do that. If not, do something else. Just because you're on a stag do doesn't mean that getting hammered on cheap lager is a requisite.

Likewise, the best man has a responsibility to look after the stag aswell as stitch him up. A bit of good humoured fun is standard practice but he should also be the one to keep an eye on the drinking and ensure that the stag doesn't finish his last night of freedom in hospital....
