Looks like the Lanzarote government want fewer Brits to visit their island

“At this stage, Lanzarote's island council hasn't said how it plans to reduce tourism saturation or visitor numbers.”https://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/article-1170559...
i.e. it is a position pushed by some local NIMBYs that have got themselves onto the local council and it will go no further.
And having been down in Playa Blanca today and seen the massive hotel development going on by the marina, then that developer isn’t expecting visitor numbers to decline any time soon - in fact obviously the opposite.

But no plan at all on how to achieve that it seems.

Mask requirements for public transport will be removed on 8th February.
Will still need them in medical settings, including the chemist.
We had dire warnings from the rep that police stop the local buses for mask checks but the reality seemed lightly policed by everyone, relying on compliance. Will still need them in medical settings, including the chemist.
I occasionally had one round my chin but my rather more militant OH never bothered.

Sounds a bit strange, the place always feels more full of other nations when I go down there.i.e. it is a position pushed by some local NIMBYs that have got themselves onto the local council and it will go no further.

The majority of "locals" live outside the big towns. When staying in villas over the years you never see anyone in property there, and I only ever see migrants/workers moving in/out to town from the urban areas.

Ha, I’ve just booked two weeks at the start of March - a holiday/working split. Staying in Playa Blanca. First time I’ve ever been on holiday solo - anything special worth looking out for/doing?
Are you into fishing? Recommended and message me for a local I know who would be out most mornings.LuS1fer said:
I have just seen a video of weather in Lanzarote today - a small whirlwind, street flooding like a river and even snow.
Here in FV, we had cloud, several hours of sunshine then cloud and a bit of rain.
I'm erring towards removing February from my holiday calendar
We avoid mid Nov on to end Feb for exactly that reason. Here in FV, we had cloud, several hours of sunshine then cloud and a bit of rain.

You might get lucky or you might not but generally for us the weather just isn't settled enough to make the trip worthwhile.

We had 2 weeks this January and it was lovely. You might get lucky or you might not but generally for us the weather just isn't settled enough to make the trip worthwhile.
Friends who live on the island tell us Dec and Jan are the coldest and wettest two months and the met numbers tend to bear that out.

February generally has sun and I'm sitting out in it right now and will be heading to the beach, shortly but you sometimes get chilly winds that can be pretty cold but can be sheltered from.
But again, way better than the UK, you just have to get a cheap flight and a cheap apartment to offset the risk and go more often!

We've had Christmas day on the beach in FV in the past - and that was lovely too, but not a chance I'd take now we can go anytime.

it's all relative however. We enjoyed 23' versus the -6' the UK had at the same time..... one mats wet season is similar to another summer month etc.Friends who live on the island tell us Dec and Jan are the coldest and wettest two months and the met numbers tend to bear that out.

But some warm sunshine is the only reason we go the Canaries in late autumn and early spring and the moment the rest of Euroland has warmed up to shorts and T shirt weather we'll be off somewhere there instead.
If the weather is grim at home then there's always something to do but if it's grim in the Canaries there's nothing to do at all.

Yes it was absolutely throwing it down in the north of the island yesterday as I drove through it.Then 30 minutes later as I drove out the other side it was back to sunshine and 20c.
And today with not a cloud in the sky it was almost too hot to sit in the sun.
Perhaps staying at home for a more consistent weather of grey clouds, damp, and 10c would have been the sensible thing to do, than risk a momentary interruption to the sun.
