What's up with the vaccination speed here in U.K? I got my first pfizer in mid may and could not get any 2nd jab yet, had to book and took around the first week of july now online. None of the walk-in centers also offered 2nd jab. A few people I know overseas (Spain, Turkey and inlaws in Australia) they are all double vaccinated already, age range between 35-55
They keep talking about vaccine success in U.K., that success my ass If I kindly put it there... Seriously the last 5 years, has been the biggest s
t-show U.K. have probably ever seen. I know I'm lucky did not die or suffer from c19, but can't wait to go to mediterranean regions seriously.
Here in Sweden, it's a 7 week wait in between 1st and 2nd jabs. They keep talking about vaccine success in U.K., that success my ass If I kindly put it there... Seriously the last 5 years, has been the biggest s

The EU in general was a long way behind the UK when vaccinations started to roll out, but now it's catching up quite quickly. But I don't think the UK has been slow, it's been very impressive looking in from outside.

I also abandoned any hope of going abroad this summer quite early on. Looking forward to my week in Devon at the end of July - it's the best I can hope for in the circumstances... but I'm still not hopeful that even that will happen.
Cases are going up everywhere in schools. One child gets it and the whole class has to isolate for 10 days. My eldest daughter is at school, my youngest at pre-school and my wife works in a school. Knowing my luck at least one of them will have to isolate for the first week of the summer holidays
Rookie error booking it so soon after schools finish!
I’m the same, my kids finish a week on Friday so we’re off to Northumberland the following week. The trouble is I’ve currently got covid and we’re all in isolation until next Tuesday, if either the wife or kids get it off me and test positive in the next few days then we’re in to isolation again and the holiday is down the toilet!Cases are going up everywhere in schools. In spain, they get johnsons (only one shot enough). In Turkey and Australia, they get pfizer 2nd dose in less than 5 weeks.
In Greece, they started to offer 150euros to younger people to get their vaccines sooner. I do not think I'm impatient but we are lagging as usual![rolleyes](/inc/images/rolleyes.gif)

I had Covid last October and we didn't change the levels of contact within our home whilst isolating. My wife and kids didn't get it, so fingers crossed for you.ooid said:

The recommendation, I think, is 8 weeks between the two jabs, so mid May means waiting to mid July for the second jab, hence your "wait/impatience".

Reading up am i right in thinking that spain will accept lateral flow fit to fly certifciates, as well as PCR ?
The UK gov advice suggests not but the Spanish advice linked to on the UK gov entry page suggests rapid antigen tests are allowed so long as the manufacturer is EU approved (they offer a link to check). Depending when you are travelling it might be best to wait until others have tested the LFT for entry to Spain, or just get a PCR test.It also says on the Spanish site that the test must be administered ‘’within 48 hours of arrival in to Spain’’ rather than the usual 72 hours. That might catch a few people out and puts a lot of pressure on getting the PCR test result in time to travel!
Hopefully there will be further clarification once the new rules are implemented.
‘’From 1 July (estimated date of enforcement), the Spanish government will require all arrivals to Spain from the UK to present a negative COVID-19 test prior to arrival (e.g. PCR, TMA, LAMP, NEAR) or proof of vaccination on entry. Details regarding COVID-19 testing requirements and proof of vaccination can be found on the Spain Travel Health page. Further details are expected to be announced on 29 June. If you are planning to travel to Spain you should check the latest entry requirements prior to travel.’’
https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/spain/ent...
‘’If the document proves a diagnostic test: date of sampling, identification and contact details of the centre performing the analysis, technique used and negative result. Made within 48 hours prior to arrival in Spain.
- Nucleic acid amplification tests (NAAT), which detect the genetic material of the virus (e.g. PCR, TMA, LAMP, NEAR, etc.).
- Rapid antigen detection tests (RAT), which detect the presence of virus antigens. The accepted tests are those approved by the European Commission, which can be found in the following link.’’

I had Covid last October and we didn't change the levels of contact within our home whilst isolating. My wife and kids didn't get it, so fingers crossed for you.Got back from France yesterday, it looked, for a moment at least we might just be very lucky and avoid isolation on the way back because of our vaccine certs, but well, it didn't happen. Ah well, I work from home anyway and well, in Wales they don't send anyone to your house to check.
The difference traveling between countries were stark, UK to France we paid for an LFT 48 hours before then we spoke to a polite Border Guard who inspected our vaccine certs, our test results and wished us a nice trip. France then gave us all free LFT tests to come home, you can get them in most large pharmacies.
Returning to the UK, 'Border Force' sat around looking like nightclub bouncers, gave us a little integration, checked the car over, twice, I'm not making this up, they asked us to open the boot at the barrier, and then, 5m later, another uptight bouncer sat in a car, who must have been bullied at school and had watched his mates check over the car, stopped us to do exactly the same thing, then a few metres later the ferry guy had to go through the lot again. Took 45 mins in total, there was only 6 passenger cars on the boat! If France goes green or they allow vaccine certs you'll need to turn up about a fortnight early to get through.

Although I know others on the boat hadn’t had theirs and had signed a declaration to say it was an essential trip, Lord only knows what excuse they used, because they certainly weren’t diplomats or scientists off to research Covid.
In fact, when they left France 5 days later, they weren’t even asked how they’d managed to isolate for 7 days.

Having decided it would be a week in Devon avoiding the crowds I now find myself with 5 days at my Sister in Laws flat in Mijas mid August.
It's nothing to do with me in terms of booking it and flights were cheap. Don't know whether to be pleased or cross.
Only going to walk from flat to beach but I did price up a hire car from Malaga Airport. Monday to Saturday.....€1200.....for a nasty little hatchback.

I don’t rent any more as I have a car out here, but I checked my old rentals company and they are quoting €28/day for mid august. That includes insurance excess, pick up from the car park at the airport. It's nothing to do with me in terms of booking it and flights were cheap. Don't know whether to be pleased or cross.

Looked at Majorca car rentals for end July and some big prices from major firms. Think I’ll sit it out.
Quite different from last summer’s Italy trip when they were giving them away.
I’ve just booked for Ibiza in the last week of July. Some search engines had no availability, Holiday Autos were €450 for a small hatch. Went back on Doyouspain and they had a Peugeot 2008 or equivalent for €350 so went for that. Normally would be 1/4 of that price.Quite different from last summer’s Italy trip when they were giving them away.
I was tempted to not bother at all but there’s some places we want to visit that are remote and we’ve got a late return flight so need a ‘base’ for the last day.
