I’m the same, my kids finish a week on Friday so we’re off to Northumberland the following week. The trouble is I’ve currently got covid and we’re all in isolation until next Tuesday, if either the wife or kids get it off me and test positive in the next few days then we’re in to isolation again and the holiday is down the toilet!
I had Covid last October and we didn't change the levels of contact within our home whilst isolating. My wife and kids didn't get it, so fingers crossed for you.
Thanks. I’m feeling better so hopefully they’ll be ok. We’ve got a few nights in Edinburgh booked for after our week in Northumberland, we might have to cancel that as we’re from Manchester. I don’t think Wee Jimmy Krankee will care that we’ve been in Northumberland before going!
Good news - Wee Krankee has removed the travel ban on Manchester and Salford. Happened yesterday I think.

Good news indeed! I just need the wife and kids to stay negative and we’re on Cliff Richard’s double decker!

Going to be cancelling our villa rental in France today. Due to go 2nd half August. We’re entitled to a refund if France is on our Amber list (as per now). But if we make it Green and UK stays on the French amber list then you have 7 day quarantine in France unless double jabbed. 3 of our party aren’t. Can’t get any refund in those circumstances (understandable from the owners POV). Now got to sort out Eurotunnel, flights, hotel bookings!

Bummer, as we actually managed it last year pre-vaccine.

Having decided it would be a week in Devon avoiding the crowds I now find myself with 5 days at my Sister in Laws flat in Mijas mid August.

It's nothing to do with me in terms of booking it and flights were cheap. Don't know whether to be pleased or cross.

Only going to walk from flat to beach but I did price up a hire car from Malaga Airport. Monday to Saturday.....€1200.....for a nasty little hatchback.
I don’t rent any more as I have a car out here, but I checked my old rentals company and they are quoting €28/day for mid august. That includes insurance excess, pick up from the car park at the airport.

Give them a try...

Thanks for that, I'll take a look. A car isn't essential so I figured I'd try a small local outfit when I'm there as they are probably feeling the pinch.

FYI the French quarantine is "voluntary" (or at least was last time I went).

Cheers, I’ll double check. Don’t think that was the case when I looked Monday though.

That's crazy I just paid £120 for 3 weeks in the Canaries with full cover for the greatest hire car of all. The mighty Dacia Sandero.

I use recordgo at Malaga as my preference. If you create a login on their site you'll always get express and discounted prices

Showing 350E for a week from 3/7 for an auto Lexus at present .. no excess no nothing - you just dump it back to them and walk away

See my other comment - recordgo are my preference at Malaga - make sure you create an account on their website and book through that

That price is bonkers. Hire cars used to cost me next to nothing but out of convenience I bought my own out there and pleased I did now.

I presume you have visited the place before but would imagine being in Mijas taxis will be cheap and easily available and its close to the airport. When i have been in the Marbella area I ordinarily only rent a car out of peak season when the cost is so cheap usually that its cheaper to rent a car for the week than the cost of a taxi to and from Malaga airport.

Just cancelled our family holiday to Germany this August. Just don’t see it being in a position to go ahead without fear of loosing some money so a UK trip it is. I still have my eurotunnel flexi tickets so hopefully can do some last minute trips to Europe.

What happened to the PHer's favourite at Malaga, Benalmadena Cars? Based on multiple recommendations here I used them for daughter and her family a few years ago, worked fine. No faff at airport - they met her with the car and were there on drop off.

Just for interest, who quoted you €1,200?

I just check Avis, who I’d expect to be amongst the most expensive, and they are quoting €340 for Monday-Saturday mid august.

I've got an estate sized vehicle booked in Majorca for a week in early August......that was with an independent local firm (Vanrell?)....with all inclusive insurance etc etc......355 euros. I checked it last week (out of curiosity in case we were force to change the week like last year) and it was 820 euros, for the same thing.

Its fair to say, we'd be using taxi's if that were the case!

It's not "voluntary", but more "not enforced", you sign a bit of paper to say you will, but no one will check, either by phone or in-person, that's not hyperbole, Macron (or possibly another Minister) actually said it during the announcement.

They also don't seem to mind what excuse you give for your 'essential trip'.

I can't prove it of course, but I'm absolutely sure that when it comes to travel between the UK and France, it's 90% about trade deals etc and 10% about Covid.

Even for June it's dead quite in the French Alpine tourist towns, if their wasn't a big Mountain Bike race next week where we stayed would have been a ghost town and the Ferry had 8 cars on it (lots of trucks). That's got to hurt if Tourism makes up 8% of your GDP.
