I'm not at all worried about the 35,000 feet part, it's when it gets nearer the ground I get nervous

would the best in the industry be the big national airlines like Air France?

They are st, I would never fly with them again. There is not a single redeeming aspect to their service, even Easyjet are a pleasure to fly with compared to Ryanair.
The redeeming aspect to their service is the fact you can fly to Sweden for £30 return!
I've flown with them loads of times and never had a problem. Its the people who are stuck in the golden age of flying and expect glamourous air hostess's to come along and tickle their balls every 10 mins who like to have a good whinge about Ryanair.
Its the local bus into town, but with wings, thats all.
£30 return if you don't have luggage or don't fly when there are schools on holiday!

Like for like there is little difference in price between them and a decent airline.

Any pilot with experience wouldn't dream of working for ryanair as their employee terms and conditions are so bad. Pilots only go there as they have just finished training and nobody else is employing. Most guys will be out of there ASAP. The very low experience levels mean people get promoted with the absolute minimum legal hours.

Most airlines will have ex ryaniar employees and their horror stories about working for ryanair. I doubt ryanair have many employees from other airlines.

Yeah, cos Ryanair planes are always falling out of the sky
I have good friends that work in the industry (pilots and ATC) and none of them would fly/work for or have anything to do with Ryan Air, so I'm happy to take that advice and steer clear of them.

And Staff attitude flows from the management down, and as the CEO of Ryan Air has little or no concern for his customers I am pretty happy to give my money to another company.

I work in the industry and so far they have an excellent safety record. Their engineering isn't an area they scrimp on and their flight crew fly some demanding and difficult routes generally without incident.

Read through the list above and they are mostly common problems and despite the size of fleet they have (huge) they don't have and more incidents then any other airline.

I won't fly with them merely because I believe in paying extra for a bit of backup customer service when things go wrong.

I can see why they have done so well and they certainly put the cat among the pigeons in the decades they been operating, changed a lot of things for the worse industry wide but also enabled a lot of people to travel to places they could never afford otherwise so not all bad.

It would be interesting to see how they would survive if they were UK registered rather than EI reg.

As for the OP, I can only add to the Cookie clearing tip. The majority of Airline websites use your cookies to track repeat visits and have algorithms to maximise profit. Try it on ba.com and you'll see what I mean. They try and frighten you into booking as the price gradually goes up when you keep going back to look.

Don't mind ryanair or easy jet... have monarch and thompson as they have lowered their carry on bag allowance to something stupid like 5kg and it means you can carry very little and I got stung when going to sharm with £20 baggage charge for being 500g over. Then there was the flight with the chavs all opening the bottles of duty free spirits and getting pissed on the plane, smoking in the toilets, twice I have flown that route and never ever again.

As long as you go in eyes wide open and don't expect anything for free ryanair, etc are ok, but look at the others as they are sometimes cheaper overall once the charges are all in place.
